Reggie Miller Mulls Comeback
Posted on Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 at 4:42 pm by Xteve
No word yet on whether Miller’s contemplated un-retirement has Danny Schayes, Tree Rollins, Chuck Person or Haywoode Workman considering quitting their day jobs.
This bit of news prompted me to ask several former Sonics if they had any plans to return to the league for a heady dish of over-40 glory.
Lazaro Borrell: “Que?”
Ruben Wolkowyski: “Puny humans … Hulk smash!”
Danny Vranes: “Basketball reference.com comped me to Reggie King once, so why not?
What do you mean, who’s Reggie King?”
Bart Kofoed: “I played for the Sonics?”
Alton Lister: “Depends …will Bickerstaff be coaching?”

I suggest Danny call up Kemp.

What’s Mark Radford up to these days?
August 8th, 2007 at 5:21 pm
Charles Oakley was talkin bout playin again too. He swears he got game still….makes me think Jordan could return for the last 20 games of the season for them Bobcats. Then MJ would be str8 ballin in the playoffs and you know this, man.

Maybe if the Lakers bring back Kareem, Bob McAdoo, Happy Hairston, Jim McMillian, Norm Nixon, and…wait for it…Gail Goodrich, Kobe will be satisfied and pledge to stick around for a few more years.

Yee Gods. Isn’t there another contender that needs a shooter more than the Celtics? I remember when Reggie was offering his services to come back to play for Team USA…
August 8th, 2007 at 6:55 pm
Oh come on now.
Dennis Rodman’s still playing. The Tijuana Dragons I believe.
August 8th, 2007 at 8:03 pm
rumor has it that they already have a shooter named Ray Allen, but I suppose Reggie could play the 12 minutes Ray is resting.
The interesting thing, as partly mentioned above, can’t he go to another contender. Two things I find very interesting about that; 1) the Celts might be contenders; 2) The Pacers aren’t so he doesn’t have an obligation to return there and the fans know it.

Sonics owner may feel as if sky is falling

The bad thing about news skimmers is that they don’t pick up stories written in mid-markets where columnists write about sports in general, to the stories about NBA teams don’t always fall into the filter/query RSS feeder
August 8th, 2007 at 9:30 pm
I’m not sure the story in Mr. Bakers’ link affects Bennett as much as Thiel claims, but, man it is intruiging to think about that Dallas game being fixed as far as point spread goes. People are going to be theorizing about a whole ton of games now…not good for the league overall. But, it’s going to help the league in the long run because officiating can only improve now. It would be great if it helped KD get some good calls as a rookie. The whole idea that you have to earn respect from refs in the league before you get calls has always been ridiculous in my opinion.

Jerome “Big Snacks” James
Valde “Broadway” Radmanovic
Ronald “Flip” Murray
and how can any former Sonics list not include Vinny “View” Askew??
In all honestly I am just shocked by this news…how can he sanely think this is a good idea for him??
August 8th, 2007 at 10:28 pm
I thought it was Jerome “Big Game” James?
August 8th, 2007 at 10:30 pm
“View” Askew. Love it.
Loved his game too. I would have included him…..but he had too much game for my list.
August 8th, 2007 at 10:51 pm
Come on, give some love to the old fan favorite Steve Scheffler!
(hope the spelling is about right)

Moochie “Insomnia” Norris.

“and how can any former Sonics list not include Vinny “View” Askew??”
I always liked the Fiddler, until he started thinking he was more than an eighth man.
Always will be a ‘Big Paper Daddy’ fan.

What about Art Long and Olumide Oyedeji?
PS. I went back and looked at the archives from this site about that Sonics and Mavs game. The 2 posts about that game were peppered with complaints about “Bogus” officiating.
August 9th, 2007 at 9:36 am
Didn’t Art Long get arrested for punching a police horse?
August 9th, 2007 at 11:24 am
I liked Olumide. Dude had a serious motor and could rebound like crazy. Problem was he couldn’t do anything else.
The Fiddler was a solid role player. He was lucky George Karl gave him a chance to come back to the league……he returned the favor by complaining about playing time. Not he smartest move.
August 9th, 2007 at 12:29 pm
“John “High” Crotty. ”
- Thats seriously clever.
Or Bryon “Don’t ask me why I spell it like Byron” Russell…victim of one of the most egregious non-calls in NBA history.
In the annals of bad Sonic signings, there’s Jim McIlvaine, there’s Calvin Booth, but in my opinion both pale next to THE single dumbest signing of the last 5 years — Ibo “I had a 12 minute career” Kutluay. That works out to $133,333.33 per minute. For a 4th SG. On a team that constantly claimed to be strapped for cash. Who was apparently signed for no other reason than Nate wanted a shooter, and apparently every other 6′6 baller on the planet was either sick or didn’t get their resumes in on time.
The following is one of my all-time favorite basketball quotes. This appeared in the Seattle Times two months into the 2002 season:
“Before Kutluay joined the Sonics, Kaan Kural, a commentator for NBA
games on Turkish television, told The Seattle Times: “Kutluay is a
one-dimensional player. He is a streaky shooter, and when his jumper is on, it is on. But in other areas, in my opinion, he might
struggle. He can’t create his own shot.”
So far, Kural’s assessment has been accurate. And McMillan said
that “defensively is where he can get better.”
———————————————————————–
Oops. That’s why you don’t take scouting assessments like “This guy is the Michael Jordan of Turkey” at face value. If Ibo was the MJ of Turkey, I should update my visa and go play over there. I’m sure I could be the Art Long of Turkey with a little practice. Heck, maybe even the Antonio Harvey of Turkey.

Looks like Reggie isan’t alone. Alan Houston’s planning a comebck.
Guess he felt guilty drawing a salary for doing nothing.

Haywood Workman IS attempting a comeback.
August 9th, 2007 at 3:07 pm
I thought Workman was trying to be an official. Maybe he can take Donaghy’s spot.
August 9th, 2007 at 4:54 pm
I’ve been waitin on the Sonics to sign Penny Hardaway since those rumors last year… too bad Pat Reily just signed him.
August 10th, 2007 at 12:20 am
