God Bless the Sooners!

Two useless posts in one day. Nothing could have made me happier this afternoon than seeing the Sooners lose. It’s a bad start to a bad week Clay.

Evidently my knowledge of figuring out quotes in a post are as stale as my 25 cent jokes. In the first response post in this thread there is an open bracket symbol with three periods, then a close bracket symbol. When I click on it, it does nothing. I have seen many posts in here like that but was too busy working on lame jokes to ask what it meant. Am I missing something? I can, however click on the green text at the head of the post that sends me to a web page where I can read about the for mentioned “God Bless the Sooners” article. Is that what the bracketed periods mean? Notating that there is a link in Green letters???

As a Washington Huskies fan, I could care less about the Oklahoma Sooners. The Oregon Ducks loss to the Californa Bears, however, put a smile on my face—especially ’cause of the fumble on the final drive.
Again, I’d blame Howard Schultz rather than Clay Bennett for the current turmoil surrounding the Seattle Supersonics. Y’all need to remember that nobody forced Schultz — who’s a cheap, parsimonious miser — to sell the franchise to an out-of-town carpetbagger like Bennett. Unlike Bennett, Schultz is a stingy bastard who turned his back against his hometown; that’s inexcusable to me.

I wouldn’t call Seattle Howard’s hometown. The guy is a native New Yorker.

Id laugh, but I have always been a Gators fan…

Although Howard Schultz isn’t a native Washingtonian, he’s still a resident of Seattle. It’s not like Clay Bennett had any prior association with the Pacific Northwest, so they’re held to different standards in my book.
In April of 2002, Schultz stated the following comments: “I was a Knicks fan as a kid and have some fond memories sitting up in the rafters with my father watching some of those great Knicks games during the glory days. When I moved to Seattle in 82, I became a season ticket holder, and I changed my allegience to my home team. I’d say my Knicks days are behind me.”

Nowadays, Schultz’s allegiance isn’t with either New York or Seattle, but rather his own bank account; he’s a selfish, money-grubbing tightwad. Hell, it’s not like Mark Cuban tried to move the Dallas Mavericks to Pittsburgh when he bought the franchise.

It was nice to see Colorado beat the Sooners…and nice to see the Duck lose too. The only time I ever rooted for the Ducks was when they beat the Sooners a season ago. Oklahoma…pathetic, one half a horse town!

Any news from hoops practice? I’m amused everytime a sportswriter assumes that Wally is going to be our starting 2 guard. Apparently, people quickly forget about KD playing that spot in the Summer League.

In scrimages Friday Durants team took 4 of 5 games. Thats all the insight I have. He was teamed with Doug Christie who “is done” and will not be invited to camp so it was considered a good day for KD.
Other reports have Jamal Crawford schooling KD earlier in the week, but I don’t put much into it. Lack of refs works in Crawfords favor and lets face it, that guy is always great in scrimmages. It hasn’t helped his career much.

It was a good day for me to hear that Christie won’t get a camp invite, lol.

Howard Schultz biggest mistake as Sonic owner was sticking with Wally Walker way to long. Wally was one of the worst GM’s in NBA history - along with Isaih Thomas.

Durant threw out the first pitch of the Mariners game tonight.
There is a story in the Puger Sound Business Journal about Nordstom being unhappy about the state of the Sonics. He was one of the many in the former ownership group that didn’t want to sell. I also waited after games to get autographs from people like Spencer Haywood, I was such a young fan, just like Nordstrom, I remember asking Bob Blackburn for an autograph, a very modest man, he told me “oh no son, you don’t want my autograph, you want a players autograph”, I told him that I knew who he was, and asked him again. What a great guy, he could have been your neighbor, he had no idea, kids in the suburbs like me did see as many games as we listened to, you stayed up because the scores wouldn’t always make it into the PI, they’d miss the press time and there wouldn’t be a score, just the word “Late”. You’d have to wait for the 5 o’clock news with Bruce King to get the score, 2 hours befor tipoff of the next game if they were back to back.
Bennett has no idea how much some people around here care about the team, no clue.
Clay really is going to get his ass kicked by better business people. It becomes clearer with each additional local name surfacing. I haven’t completely figured it who is driving the bus that’ about to run over Bennett.

While Jamal hasn’t lived up to his selection in the mid-lottery, he has accomplished more in his career than any of the non-rookie Sonics.

With the exception of Wally.

Assuredly, Clay Bennett is a greedy, no-good dirtbag. Yet, no matter his contemptible ways, I can understand why he’s using underhanded techniques in an attempt to relocate the Seattle Supersonics to Oklahoma City.
As I mentioned in an earlier post, my hypothetical objective behind buying an NHL franchise such as the Calgary Flames or the Edmonton Oilers — yes, this is definitely a far-fetched example — would be to eventually move the team to Seattle.
Although I wouldn’t act in a shady, two-faced manner like Bennett — as I’d make my intentions known from the outset — that doesn’t change the original purpose, which’d be to pack up and take off for greener pastures. While people throughout the Great White North would detest me with a passion, the outcome would justify the outrage.
Regarding Howard Schultz, however, there’s no way that I’d ever sell a professional sports franchise to an out-of-town owner under any circumstances. That, folks, is why I despise him a whole lot more than Bennett.
Obviously, it must be assumed that my finances were in stellar shape to even own the organization, so money wouldn’t be an issue. I, therefore, would hold out on making any business transactions until a fellow Washingtonian wanted to buy it.
Why Schultz didn’t make a more concerted effort with the City of Seattle — or Washington State Legislature, for that matter — with regards to building a new state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility (e.g., The King County Events Center) somewhere within the region is beyond me? It also bothers me that he didn’t make a better effort to sell the Seattle Supersonics to someone who’s got local ties to the area.
All in all, Schultz sold out on us.

as someone from Texas I can tell you that the University of Texas/University of Oklahoma rivalry is HUGE down there .. Durant sure as heck doesn’t want to end up living in OKC!!

Anyone else want to join the emerald club?
Weird but on Friday there was an article about this in the seattle-pi. Then the times runs an article about suite ticketsholders. You’d think that there was a lot of attention on the teams promotional tactics right now.

HS had the same problem that Bennett has, the Key Arena. He couldn’t shake it loose so he had to sell. I don’t remember any local buyer. Don’t blame the current mess on Schultz. It started before him and he was just smart enough to con a rich okie into buying the team. If the Sonics leave it will be all on the city council.
