Sonics Vs. Warriors Game Thread

Pelton’s Place

Any truth to the vicious rumor I heard that the new & improved Sonics.com I keep seeing in those flash ads will feature scandalous pictures of Kevin Pelton?? Or is it just the Sonics dance team? :)

I keed, I keed

As Kevin writes Golden State is an extremely high paced club so this should be a very fast paced up and down affair. Long time readers may remember this:

The second classic blunder (right after never getting involved in a land war in Asia, as all of you will recall) is Never, ever, EVER try to beat Nellie with small ball.

Let’s see if PJ has learned that lesson.

PS Donyell Marshall and Chris Wilcox will hopefully play tonight.

  1. Balloholic Says:

My game prediction, Sonics lose by 20 but Kevin Durant ends up with a perfect FG%

    for me to poop on

  2. Mr. Baker Says:

GP is not here to will this team to victory in front of Mr Mean.
GS 108-97 (score closer than the actual game)

Our only hope is that the beach log named Chris Webber rolls over some unsuspecting Golden State fast breaks.

I feel bad for our back court already. GS will be aiming for a good spot in the playoffs with Yao Ming breaking his foot, being out for the rest of the season.

  3. rogal Says:

Watson is out, and if Wilcox is out too, then I don’t think we will win. If everybody were healthy then I would expect a solid game..

  4. xerces Says:

With Wilcox possibly out, Earl out and Luke starting against Baron Davis this is defiently going to be a bloodbath on Golden State’s behalf… sorry to say.

  5. Dick Tate Says:

with Yao Ming breaking his foot, being out for the rest of the season.

Trading away #31 last summer just started to stink a little less.

  6. psheehy Says:

I say they forget winning tonight and just run, run, run and try to put up a NBA record score.

  7. BK Says:

I’m expecting we will see Gelebale at point after Baron body slams Luke again. Is it just me or does that happen everytime we play GS.

  8. Big_Worm Says:

I’m calling 10+ assists for Luke.

  9. rogal Says:

It’s off the topic, but I keep thinking why we couldn’t get Gasol .. with thomas’ expiring contract + alpha. That trade would make us dangerous team ..

  10. xerces Says:

Clay slavemaster Presti would have never went after Gasol, or anyone over 27 who is not a bench warming ventern with an expiring contract.

  11. Big_Worm Says:

rogal - we probably COULD have and SHOULD have… but either Presti was afraid of committing to Gasol’s contract, or Bennett was.

  12. Lester Says:

It’s going to be a run and gun game, and Luke is going to play 40 minutes, so I predict 14 points, 12 assists, 7 turnovers, and a permanent tattoo of Baron Davis’s footprint on his forehead along with a new aerodynamic hairstyle caused by Monta’s frequent jet drives past our boy from Blaine.

  13. Lester Says:

    Golden State locker room conversation:

“Hey, Baron, you hear Watson has the flu. He’s not on the plane.”
    “Watson ain’t coming?”
    “Nope.”
    “So who’s starting?”
    “Ridnour.”
    “Who’s backup?”
“That French guy with the braids.”
    “I’m going to score 44.”

  14. AK1984 Says:

Sans Earl Watson, Monta Ellis and Baron Davis will totally shred the duo of Kevin Durant and Luke Ridnour.

  15. GP are you wit'me? Says:

““Hey, Baron, you hear Watson has the flu. He’s not on the plane.”
    “Watson ain’t coming?”
    “Nope.”
    “So who’s starting?”
    “Ridnour.”
    “Who’s backup?”
“That French guy with the braids.”
    “I’m going to score 44.” ”

    BWWWUHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
I can totally see Baron say that too, that’s what’s funny

  16. Lester Says:

Yao is out for the season with a broken foot, the same foot he’s previously injured. In the moral victories department, we can at least be happy we’re not Rockets fans.

  17. MartinH Says:

I can see Baron saying that, too!
Funny thing is that it reminds me of Arenas leaning over to DeShawn Stevenson during the warmups of a game last season and saying “I feel like 37 and the game winner tonight“, only to go out and get 51 and the game winner! :-)

  18. AK1984 Says:

What, on a completely off-topic note, has happened to Jeff “Beantown” Turner? Now, I’m not sure if it was verified that “Beantown” is actually Turner; however, he’s seemingly quit posting here as often ever since someone guessed that it’s him.

At any rate, however, “Beantown” probably feels vindicated with Robert Swift’s recent injury — even though it’s a torn meniscus in his right knee rather than testicular castration — thus, it’s perplexing that he’s around to gloat about it. Oh well, it’s no big deal.

  19. MartinH Says:

Percy Allen has printed SOS’s excellent letter to the Board of Governors today. And Henry Abbott has linked to it on TrueHoop. Brilliant media coverage. For those yet to see it, go have a read.
Top stuff, Steve, Brian and all others involved!

  20. phenom Says:

Ridnour betta be gettin fired up for The Baron. Remember their last game against the other? Kinda like the Luke and Delonte West battles from back in the day.

  21. phenom Says:

Lebron’s job became a lot easier with the Cav’s additions and subtractions

  22. SpeedCat Says:

“Come Poop With Me”… WTF! I love it! :)

“You’ve had more bones in your mouth than a Saint Bernard!”
    ….
“I can rap, can you lick your own nuts?”

    LOL, thanx for the laughs.

  23. phenom Says:

Marques Johnson and Calabro get to broadcast a wild game tonight. Good to see the old crew, isn’t Marques in White Men Can’t Jump?

  24. Joshu@ Says:

Hey SOS, great job on the letter. Anyone who reads that and still feels contrary to it is obviously a krony of the Cowboy himself. I wish I could do more, but for now all I can offer is my emotional support.

  25. SpeedCat Says:

Watch Gelly get some sweet numbers out there tonight.

All hail, the rise of Gelly Man!

Not that we’ll win or anything…

  26. MarkS Says:

    Cool!!!

Marques Johnson is color commentator tonight.

  27. phenom Says:

As far as the Sonics are currently concerned, the fewer the turnovers in the game overall, the better….unless Gelly gets to play behind Luke, Durant and Green.

  28. ginobililand Says:

one question how about italy Marco Belinelli? Where is he? He played amazing in preseason vs durant

  29. SeattleWa Says:

wow that ios one squeaky floor

  30. SpeedCat Says:

Sonics come strong out of the gate. Staying power? Unlikely.

  31. SeattleWa Says:

    Woot Gelly is in.

  32. SeattleWa Says:

Barnes looks goofy..all hunched over and sh*t

  33. MarkS Says:

Makes one wish we still had Delonte. I love Gelly but he’s not a point guard.

  34. D_G Says:

    Durant is going double-double tonight.

  35. SeattleWa Says:

    Durant is agressive today… hmm…

  36. AK1984 Says:

The Golden State Warriors ought to trap Mickael Gelabale every time down the court while he’s at point guard, since that’ll disrupt the Seattle Supersonics’ flow. Undoubtedly, Gelabale shouldn’t be running the offense at any point in time. It, without a doubt, is an indicator of Sam Presti and P.J. Carlesimo’s ineptitude. Dammit, they can’t allow this type of bullshit.

Prior to tonight’s game, Presti should’ve released Ira Newble and signed a true point guard to a ten-day contract. Even if it was an over-the-hill, washed-up has-been like Randy Livingston — or an undersized, overmatched playmaker such as Mike Wilks — there’d've at least been a respectable stopgap facilitating the offense.

  37. Silvervan83 Says:

that would be collison dunk would have been off the hook (superior to that which is hooked). I’m so excited at all this effort. Good thing their not calling all this traveling.

  38. MartinH Says:

All I can say is thank heavens for Andris Biedrins’ appendix.
If he still had it, I reckon we’d be getting smashed about now. :-)

  39. SeattleWa Says:

When Ridnour is the PG the game is so much better to watch…

  40. SeattleWa Says:

holy sh*t RIdnour is dropping dimes like it aint a thang

  41. AK1984 Says:

Chris Webber can’t run to save his life. Hell, he can barely jog.

  42. AK1984 Says:

    When Ridnour is the PG the game is so much better to watch…” {SeattleWA}

The perimeter defense is total garbage, too, but Luke Ridnour fans would rather watch shit than grit.

  43. supafish10 Says:

Funny how this works we bash him the last couple of days then comes out of the gate real hard… good for you Durant! Hopefully the intensity and focus can stay with him the rest of the season!

  44. jamminj Says:

    ummm, who are these guys!!!!!!!

  45. D_G Says:

    Collison is going double-double tonight.

  46. Sam Says:

    Luke Ridnour who?

  47. Bryce Says:

Supes looking real good so far. The last two minutes or so have been especially fun to watch.

  48. MarkS Says:

    Nick’s on fire.

  49. D_G Says:

Correction, Collison is going double-double this half.

  50. Sam Says:

    He already has one

  51. supafish10 Says:

Presti must be there tonite…. Guys are trying to show some trade value…..

  52. Ajw Says:

Collison is doing work down low. Sweet Jesus.

And another thing; this is about as confident as I’ve seen Durant all season. You wouldn’t know he was struggling the previous 3-4 games with the way he’s attacking the hoop.

  53. ginobililand Says:

Collison plays like Amare Stoudamire uoou..

  54. AK1984 Says:

Brandan Wright, Chris Webber, and Austin Croshere don’t make up for the loss of Andris Biedrins.

  55. Ajw Says:

Gelly is starting to grow on me. Seems like he takes high percentage shots and often doesn’t force the issue. If he keeps this play up, we might have solved an issue at 2-guard. Then all we’d have to worry about is PG and PF/C in the draft.

  56. SeattleWa Says:

    Its a conspiracy

Clay Bennet dsoesnt want Ridnour starting because hes from Seattle and doesnt not want to draw a croud.

    you heard it here first

  57. SeattleWa Says:

sorry for my spelling been drinking a bit tonight.

  58. slickwatts13 Says:

the SONICS are making us proud 2nite..lets just sit back, forget all the red tape issues for a while, and watch them play a playoff seeking team really hard.

  59. D_G Says:

“Clay Bennet dsoesnt want Ridnour starting ”

    Thank you Clay Bennet.

  60. D_G Says:

I quote the Golden State play-by-play man.

“If it had been any other defender other than Ridnour, it wouldn’t have been made.”

  61. Ajw Says:

    Ridnour has 12 assists already?

  62. SeattleWa Says:

Trust me if I was that infiltrator Bennet, the Supes would stay in seattle.

you cannot hate on me because I tell you Seattle Fans do not care if Sonics stay in Seattle. Because the majority do not care..

    I bleed GREEN AND GOLD

  63. Sam Says:

I know Luke isn’t the best defender, but at least he tries harder than most at defense on this team.

  64. D_G Says:

Why did Webber choose to sign with Golden State and not some other option? (Like resigning with Detriot).

  65. Big_Worm Says:

    Big_Worm Says:
I’m calling 10+ assists for Luke

In the first half is what I meant

  66. lox Says:

12 assists to 0 TO. ’nuff said

  67. SeattleWa Says:

    I dont understand PJ ..

Who cares if Watson’s feelings get hurt…Start ridnour and give him 35+ minutes a game

something has to be up with upper management..

  68. The Big Dipper Says:

This first half was 24 minutes of garbage time. Has any player on golden State broken a sweat yet? Golden State played defense on exactly one possession in the first half. In the rest they just sort of stood around and watched.

Is G.S. the worst defensive team in the NBA? Or is some other team actually worse?

  69. Ajw Says:

This first half was 24 minutes of garbage time. Has any player on golden State broken a sweat yet? Golden State played defense on exactly one possession in the first half. In the rest they just sort of stood around and watched.

Is G.S. the worst defensive team in the NBA? Or is some other team actually worse?

Yeah that must be why Durant is shooting a high fg%.

  70. Big_Worm Says:

TBD gets all flustered when Durant shoots well. Awww… so cute.

Don’t worry, so you have built in excuse because Biedrens isn’t playing. That’s obviously why Golden State isn’t winning, because Biedrens is pretty much the best player in the NBA.

  71. Big_Worm Says:

P.S. Think the fact that we’re shooting 52% might have a *little* to do with the fact that we have 19 assists?

  72. jjdjvjej Says:

Could it be…Sonics defense improves enough that Luke is not such a liability…and we finally get to see him run the break?

He is soooooooo much more fun to watch.

And ask CW and Green who they like playing with better…

  73. Ajw Says:

No Big_Worm, the only way Durant can score is when the other team doesn’t break a sweat according to the Almighty Big Dipper who is never wrong.

Let’s hope Golden State continues walking “standing around.”

  74. SeattleWa Says:

    YEA WILCOX

    nice dish from Collison

  75. Ajw Says:

Remember this is the same team that flustered Dirk Nowitzki in the first round last year. I would think they could’ve done the same to Durant tonight.

  76. MartinH Says:

Yes, Golden State is by far the worst defensive team in the league. They were singlehandedly preventing us being the worst early in the season.

  77. Crow Says:

“SeattleWa” I don’t “hate” on different views on prospects to retain team. There are ways to present that which make it easier or harder to listen to that though.

But if you say you are a Sonics fan I’ll tend to accept that. Enjoy the game.

  78. The Big Dipper Says:

I would say the reason the Sonics are shooting over 50% is because in the first half the Sonics ran a fastbreak drill while the Warriors just jogged back on defense.

Of course, I’m sure some of you basketball experts have a better reason.

  79. MartinH Says:

At any rate, I should say that they’re the worst in terms of pure points allowed per game.
Maybe they’re better on a per possession basis? I have no idea. ;-)

  80. lox Says:

    Baron says: “steals matter”

  81. The Big Dipper Says:

    Monta Ellis or Luke Ridnour?

    Monta Ellis or Luke Ridnour?

    Who would you take?

  82. AK1984 Says:

    Remember this is the same team that flustered Dirk Nowitzki in the first round last year. I would think they could’ve done the same to Durant tonight.” {Ajw}

Dirk Nowitzki and Kevin Durant are entirely different types of players, as Nowitzki has trouble with tall, quick swingman like Stephen Jackson who can cause all sorts of chaos by playing stifiling defense around the high-post.

On the other hand, though, Durant has difficulty with strong, yet sneaky perimeter defenders — such as Baron Davis, who’s an apropos example — since they can force him into making stupid turnovers via ball-handling errors that become steals.

Again, the so-called comparison between Nowitzki and Durant is a complete and utter joke. They’re dissimilar in almost every way, shape, and form.

  83. Mr. Baker Says:

peel off your overcoat Steve, Donny Marshal is on the floor, show off your new Sonics jersey!

  84. Mr. Baker Says:

you can do that if your name is hot sauce

    Priceless

  85. greenmachine Says:

ugh..we take out green for marshall and there’s a 9 pt swing

  86. Mr. Baker Says:

    gelly for 3

  87. SeattleWa Says:

    LOLOL

“shes more worried about the sweat more than anythign else ughhhh honey”

    -Marques Johnson

  88. vitalogist Says:

marques johnson is the fuckin best. what i wouldnt give to him back with KC full time…. these guys just have a fun time together calling a game…..

  89. lox Says:

    Haha, I love Marques

  90. The Big Dipper Says:

You can do that if your name is Wicky Ho.

    LOL

  91. MarkS Says:

I think she got tea bagged.

  92. Ajw Says:

She just ate a huge sack of nuts.

  93. The Big Dipper Says:

Golden State plays a little defense for one quarter, and all of a sudden Seattle is shooting under 50% now. Interesting.

How many fastbreak dunks did Seattle get in the 3rd quarter?

  94. Dick Tate Says:

    jjdjvjej Says:
Could it be…Sonics defense improves enough that Luke is not such a liability

The answer appears to be “no”.

  95. AK1984 Says:

At least that broad was only tea bagged by Mickael Pietrus, which is better than getting shot in the face with cream of “sum yung gi” in her eye.

    That’d've been a bitch.

  96. SeattleWa Says:

You could say Adrian Griffin’s strength isnt passing

    ROFL

  97. lox Says:

You could say Adrian Griffin’s strength isn’t playing basketball…

  98. Mr. Baker Says:

griffin is the new guy, he is learning the size of floor the Sonics play on is smaller than the one that his old team apparently used.

  99. SeattleWa Says:

    Nice dish Green to Collison

  100. SeattleWa Says:

“You could say Adrian Griffin’s strength isn’t playing basketball…”

    lol

    you deserve a cookie

  101. AK1984 Says:

Kevin Durant and Luke Ridnour’s +/- production will be trash tonight, as they both are hideously abysmal defenders. Guys like that don’t win games.

  102. Lester Says:

And Luke has officially run out of gas…Monte Ellis is FAST…remember those old Sonics ads with GP? “It’s good to be fast.”

  103. Lester Says:

Notice how the Luke-a-Nuts have shut up now?

  104. Mr. Baker Says:

    Ellis doing his Ridnour immitation

  105. SeattleWa Says:

    OMG nice hustle LUKE RIDNOUR

    *claps*

  106. AK1984 Says:

    Notice how the Luke-a-Nuts have shut up now?” {Lester}

I’m an official Luke Ridnour hater, but I’ll give the guy props for busting his ass. However, “The Golden Child” is obviously too small, weak, and unathletic to play against superior compeition.

  107. SeattleWa Says:

    GELLY MAN AND 1

  108. Mr. Baker Says:

I called, at the start of the thread, GS 108-97, let’s see if they get there.

  109. Lester Says:

Did Luke get an assist on that long outlet? I’m a big fan of the hockey assist, where a great pass leads to a good pass and the assist.

  110. lox Says:

Notice how the Luke-a-Nuts have shut up now?

And yet the Earl-a-Nuts never rest

  111. SeattleWa Says:

Durant with 7 assists so far..we need more of this from him

  112. SeattleWa Says:

    @IOX

Luke needs more playing time I bet he isnt in shape like he should be

  113. Mr. Baker Says:

green, call me coach karl, and I will call you bigdog for 20 seconds

  114. Mr. Baker Says:

green, call me coach karl, and I will call you bigdog for 20 seconds

  115. SeattleWa Says:

    @ Mr. Baker

you might be right my friend.

  116. Lester Says:

Man, Luke just tuckered out. He hasn’t played these kind of minutes in a year. And he has to do it again tomorrow. If Earl has the sickness I just had, he’s going to be useless tomorrow, too. We’re in double-trouble tomorrow.

  117. MarkS Says:

We better draft someone good as a result of those trades. Elson’s the only one who’s showing anykind of productivity.

  118. SeattleWa Says:

    @Mr Baker

off by 5 combined points..nice still nostradamus

  119. Lester Says:

Congratulations to Luke on the career high in assists.

  120. SpeedCat Says:

She just ate a huge sack of nuts.

ROTFLMFAO! You guys got me HOWLIN’ over here!! :)

By the way, y’all need to look up “TEA BAGGING” for a real gas.

  121. Menace Says:

I hope this ends the “Let Gelabale play PG” idea once and for all. Not knocking the guy…..but he isn’t a PG. Period.

I’m all for getting the new guys some burn. Correct me if I’m wrong…….but did PJ really put in Marshall and Griffin in the game cold in the third quarter…..when the game was still tight?

  122. Mr. Baker Says:

close, sonics covered my spread, under/over was under
I’ll pay the sandman with nightmares of Baron Davis beating me on the arms while an arena of refs watch, but don’t cal a foul.
    Nooooooooooooooo

“sorry for my spelling been drinking a bit tonight. ”

It’s not the spelling you should be sorry about…

  124. MXT Says:

Havent seen the game yet, but, looks like sending Gelly to the d-leagues was a good move! 12 and 7 is pretty damn good.

Does this team look any better without Wilkins on the court jacking it up every time he touches the rock?

  125. Menace Says:

    Austin Croshere = Sonic killer

    remember last year?

  126. SpeedCat Says:

“close, sonics covered my spread, under/over was under
I’ll pay the sandman with nightmares of Baron Davis beating me on the arms while an arena of refs watch, but don’t cal a foul.
    Nooooooooooooooo ”

Baker, with all the talk of TEABAGGING tonight, you should be careful putting the terms “cover my spread” and “under/over” and “beating me” and “Noooooooooooo” in the same sentence!

  127. SpeedCat Says:

“Does this team look any better without Wilkins on the court jacking it up every time he touches the rock? ”

ABSOLUTELY. Can we trade the loser already?

  128. Alex Chan Says:

The Sonics win the field goal percentage battle…but lose the war; this anomaly seems to have occurred fairly recently in the last twenty or so games.

This team took four three-point attempts; I would guess that no team has shot fewer threes in a game this season. That may even be the lowest number of three-pointers attempted in three years.

  129. MartinH Says:

Props also to Jeff Green for a career-high 21.

  130. SpeedCat Says:

Turnovers 24 to 12… wonder why we lost? We beat them on assists AND rebounds.

Nick really kicking butt out there.

IMO Durant has “ball control” issues. What are his average turnovers, anyone?

  131. Alex Chan Says:

“Props also to Jeff Green for a career-high 21.”

Twenty-one shots required though. A lot of his offense came from offensive rebounds and fast breaks; it is not as if he created his own offense, something that this team desperately needs.

  132. Alex Chan Says:

Shan Foster, someone with whom WSU fans may have some familiarity from the first weekend of last year’s NCAA tournament, had thirty-two points on thirteen field goal attempts for Vanderbilt tonight against the Vols. I believe Foster’s play this season warrants a second round look from Sam Presti; it wouldn’t hurt to add a guy to the roster who has a higher effective field goal percentage in his college career than even Ray Allen.

  133. Big_Worm Says:

    - Petro had a disappointing game. GS had an open path to the basket for much of the game, and Petro seemed disinterested in helping matters
-1st half was Luke’s kind of game. He showed how he can thrive and help his teammates in an up-tempo system.
-Green showed again the good chemistry he has with Luke
    - We got tired in the 2nd half, especially Luke.
    - Durant played pretty good defense at times against Davis. 3 blocks. 7 assists as well.
    -Solid game by Collison
-Gelebale is nothing more than an emergency option at PG. I think he’s a good player for us just the same.
-It’s fun to watch a game without Wilkins and Watson clogging up the flow. Too bad we get tired without them.

  134. SeattleWa Says:

LOL.. Speedcat, you are the deifinition of a cherry picker.

You are not a true Sonics fan. hate to break it to you.

  135. Lester Says:

It’s so funny to hear you Ridnour guys rise from the ashes after he himself disappeared for a few weeks and rose from the ashes tonight.

He played great the first half, offensively, but he got ROASTED by Ellis. Absolutely destroyed.

Watson would have gotten destroyed, too, but none of us Watson-ettes would have neglected to notice or mention that fact.

  136. SpeedCat Says:

    SeattleWA,

Whatever, dude. I just don’t think Ridnour is such a huge factor as your comments seemed to indicate. Perhaps I read you wrong? Anyways, I’m not here to piss you off or anything. Have a good day.

    Cheers
    Speed

  137. AK1984 Says:

    IMO Durant has “ball control” issues. What are his average turnovers, anyone?” {SpeedCat}

Kevin Durant (Turnovers Per 48 Minutes: 4.1 & Assists Per Turnover: .76) is awful at handling the rock, which has been an issue with him all season.

  138. Sam K Says:

Love Gelly as a backup 2/3. Hate him as a backup 1 or starting 2/3. The question is: how much is he worth this summer? If we can lock him up for under $2mm per season, I’m all for it. Otherwise I’m fine letting him walk and drafting someone like Weaver to replace him.

  139. Menace Says:

Shan Foster = one dimensional. 3 pt shooter. mid to late second rounder at best.

  140. Big_Worm Says:

Rise from the ashes? I’ve been pretty steadfast in my advocacy for Ridnour as our starting point guard over Watson.

As an Early Bird restricted free-agent who earned $802,000 this season, Mickael Gelabale’s qualifying offer during the upcoming off-season will be a one-year, $1,002,500 contract — which is a 125% raise from his annual salary — and a fair deal for both parties.

  142. Menace Says:

Luke had a good game tonight. I can’t take that away from him. But thats one good game in a month. I think he had one good game last month vs the Lakers. No consistency. Same story with Watson.

Ellis had 30. Baron Davis had a double double (almost triple)……..so it doesn’t really matter how well he played. We still got dominated by the other teams backcourt……and we still lost.

Yeah, I’d rather spend one of those second-round draft picks on a well-rounded swingman like Josh Shipp — who’s similar to Adrian Griffin, Greg Buckner, and former teammate Aaron Afflalo — instead of a one-dimensional long-distance shooter such as Shan Foster, Richard Roby, or Courtney Lee.

  144. Mr. Baker Says:

    griffin era has begun

And the human bong put on his uniform and wander around the floor

15 assists for luke, he needs a shot blocker behind him since he is going to close out and force a drive. He should only play when Sene is on the floor. The Earl Show was a no-show. He can’t be better tonight if he can’t show up.

Have I mentioned lately that I hope they are both gone before training camp? No? Well, they have things they have yet to resolve, not looking like they are going to, so I would like to move on. Draft a pg, sign a cheap backup, forget Luke Watson were ever here.

  145. SpeedCat Says:

Rid’s 4 turns, the 4 turns from Green, 5 from KD, and 3 from Petro in only 18 mins amounted to a big part of my dissatisfaction tonight. Johan really stank it up out there.

What I liked tonight was the spurts of killer Sonics ballmovement. Amazing! Defense sucked, or was mostly nonexistent, but the passing was incredible (at least, for good part of the game, and most certainly if compared with the rest of this season). In fact, I don’t think I’ve seen better ballmovement from this team in years. The zip passes, the bounce passes, passes while airborne, the crazy shaiite they put together tonight was impressive. Even with the turnovers. If they can continue with that kind of fluidity on offense, yet learn to mix it up with smart man-man defense on the other end, then I’ve got to give PJ some kudos. I have my doubts though - versus a team with better defense that kind of risky passing might just implode like the Kingdome did with all those shaped charges.

  146. Crow Says:

Speedcat Durant averages 2.8 turnovers a game and 4.1 per 48 minutes which is real close to the 4.4 per 48 D West had and made him 2nd highest on team (not counting swift and now Elson) on that later measure, rising a bit above Green now at 3.7 per 48.

But per possession used (Durant is high on possessions used and so turnovers would be elevated above that for others with lower possssions used per minute) he is middle of the pack for the team and not as bad.

  147. Crow Says:

Per possession compared to other bigtime scorers Durant’s “turnover rate” is 10% higher than Kobe, 40% than TMac and 60% higher than BRoy.

  148. Crow Says:

    It is equal to Carmelo’s.

  149. Crow Says:

Maggette’s turnover rate is 20% higher, so Durant isnt the worst in that group.

  150. Myk Says:

It’s so funny to hear you Ridnour guys rise from the ashes after he himself disappeared for a few weeks and rose from the ashes tonight.

He played great the first half, offensively, but he got ROASTED by Ellis. Absolutely destroyed.

Watson would have gotten destroyed, too, but none of us Watson-ettes would have neglected to notice or mention that fact.

    - LOL….yup the same Watson-ettes that think that these last 5 decent games he played in some how relevant to his actual playing ability.

    - I’ve said before that one of the biggest things I think KD has to adjust to is not being the best player on the floor. It looks like he only ever had to make one move to create his shot and now that he has some better defensive players he isn’t used to having to make a couple of moves. He has the moves…he just needs to be more effective in using them.

The lone Watson-ette (Lester) is even more annoying than the group of Luke-a-Nuts.

This to the guy who just singlehandedly managed to organise the flying of a pro-Seattle banner over the All-Star game? Get a grip, son!

God, what an ugly game. I cannot imagine spending $50-100 for a ticket to watch 2 NBA teams play what essentially amounts to a 2-1/2 hour pickup game at the local playground.

I cannot stand Don Nelson’s so-called “philosophy” and I cannot stand Baron Davis. The only consolation for my ongoing disdain for those two lays in knowing that neither of them will ever win a meaningful game in the NBA. I can only hope and dream that their brand of “small ball” dies a horrible and violent death within my lifetime.

Other than Monta Ellis, and Biedrins when he’s healthy, I find Golden State to be thoroughly unwatchable.

  159. Lester Says:

In this year when the Sonics can only truly compete with the worst 10% of the league, and will likely win 5 or fewer games the rest of the way, the Watson/Ridnour debate is the the only unpredictable battle-between-equals in our lives…

  160. SeattleWa Says:

    The Supes D is ass.

Its not all Luke Ridnour’s fault B Diddy,Ellis and AUSTIN CROSHERE destroyed us…

Since he and like 10 other dudes(including me) are the only ones who care about the Supes.

Funny, I don’t remember doing that. Must be a short term memory problem. Or something.
