2/27/08 Box Score: Sonics 96 Nuggets 138

Fugly. That was the outcome of the game for the Sonics. Not much exciting to write about in a game where you get your butts handed to you to this degree.
Mickael Gelabale and Kevin Durant both had 16 points. Johan Petro and Jeff Green both had 15 points.

And did anybody notice that Anthony Carter guarded Durant for at least 15 minutes tonight and KD did not post him up, not even once.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:46 pm
Jeff Green attempted as many threes in this game as he has attempted all month; he deserves some credit for not giving up on the shot even though he was woefully short on his five misses from beyond the arc. Perhaps Green should stick to the baseline three as it is the shortest three on the court; Bruce Bowen and Shane Battier make a living from that area.
February 27th, 2008 at 10:49 pm
Jeff Green is still developing into a caliber player in this league. Props to him for the continuous effort. Perhaps he can attempt more threes during practice.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:11 pm
Anyone want to take a stab and why they don’t have Sene in a position to play those last 8 minutes.
I mean if you’re going to run Vin Baker er Donyell Marshall out there why not run the young fella.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:13 pm
pathetic…embarrasment…ashamed to be a sonic fan..where were the hard fouls when they were driving down the lane..as for jeff green he is an embarrasment to the name derrick mckey..chalk up a loss to miami…pj is an embrarrassment also…this is really bad….thanks for nothing presti/carlissimo
February 27th, 2008 at 11:20 pm
Prior to tonight Green had made 3 corner 3s and 2 from up top. He has hit left baseline 2s decently and 2 of his corner 3s so that is probably the spot for him to try to develop. Rightside long wing 2s and in the paint are his other good spots so far.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
After March 8 Stampede only play 2 games in almost 2 weeks. I’d bring him up then. He has played 21 games down there. A few more and time to get back to the real challenge.
February 27th, 2008 at 11:34 pm
12 pts 9 rebs 2 blocks in 27 minutes and 54% FG there is alright.

February 28th, 2008 at 12:32 am
ahhl….thank god I didn’t go to the game tonight, or I will request a refund from Clay Bennett
February 28th, 2008 at 12:35 am
Can we trade for Kleiza yet? He toast us every time we play the Nugs. He just had help from about ten other guys tonight.
February 28th, 2008 at 6:38 am
If the Seattle Supersonics are in line to select Derrick Rose during the 2008 NBA Draft, then Earl Watson and Luke Ridnour — especially “The Golden Child,” who’s got the clutish collection of fan(atic)s supporting his worthless ass — must be dealt elsewhere on draft day for players who’ve got contracts that expire after the 2008-2009 season.
http://tinyurl.com/2ea4va
That accomplishes the aforementioned objective.
February 28th, 2008 at 7:00 am
see how many fouls the team did? That stat shows the reason to such a horrible loss
February 28th, 2008 at 8:24 am
Regardless of which individual names Sam Presti brings in for next season the one thing he absolutely has to do is aquire a toughnosed center that will play hard in the paint and is reliable, and also a physical perimiter defender, whether as a stand alone shooting guard or a combo one. That’s besides a real pointguard of course.
This team needs to toughen up a whole lot. Durant may be the future star, but at this point it looks like he will be easing his way into that role and isn’t anywhere near prepared to take a team on his shoulders.
February 28th, 2008 at 9:35 am
how important is to get a true hardnosed center (even if he only dedicates to defend) for the next season considering the structure of the team? I think 7/10 in scale of necessities.
Structure of team for next year (probably):
PG: 1st pick on draft
SG:?
SF: durant
PF:Green
C:?
6th man: Collison.
We need a big defensive center.
Wilcox, watson, etc will be trade bait to fill those missing spots.
What you guys think?
I would appreciate if someone totally differs of my opinions that there is no need for insults. I’m just writing my thoughts.
(sorry for bad spelling or syntax, I’m not from the U.S.)

You know why the Nuggets won tonight?? Cause they shot 67%…this might be the single biggest beat down I’ve ever seen.
February 28th, 2008 at 10:25 am
were the easy buckets what gave them that 67%? Impossible for me to watch sonics games
February 28th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Not hard to shoot 67% on uncontested layups. The game was really just a layup drill and 3pt shooting contest for the Nuggets even when Sonic defenders were in the paint. That’s what you get for starting an undersized power forward at center. Can we get some big men who don’t get stipped or blocked everytime in the post? That would be nice.
February 28th, 2008 at 10:36 am
Collison got handled last night… Wilcox didn’t do much better though. Very bad game, Iverson was pretty much showing off towards the end of the 3rd.
February 28th, 2008 at 10:53 am
I can’t believe the Nuggets only attempted 16 free throws. How do you allow yourselves to get pasted by 42 without putting some butts on the floor? Where’s the pride? They should be ashamed of themselves.
February 28th, 2008 at 10:54 am
I loved our interior defense. Iverson would drive baseline behind the back board and 3 to 4 Sonics would coverge (when AI has no possible shot attempt) and AI would dish to a 3pt shooter with no one within 15 ft of them. The only positive thing I saw at the game was Gelebale. My tickets were free and I still feel like I deserve a refund.
February 28th, 2008 at 11:12 am
Anyone attend the “first annual” Sonics career fair earlier in the evening??
February 28th, 2008 at 11:15 am
Joe Pryzbilla or Jeff Foster would help. Zaza Pachulia’s play has slipped this year but he only has one more year left at $4mil. Dan Gadzuric isn’t an option. He looked promising a couple years ago but since he signed his big, longterm contract he’s dissapeared.
Pryzbilla for Watson works with the trade checker. When Oden returns the Blazers might be willing to trade Joe since his contract and Watson’s expire the same time I think.
Or how about Watson to Indianna, Tinsley to Portland, and Pryzbilla to Seattle. Usually you don’t trade within your division but Portland has nothing to fear from the Sonics.
February 28th, 2008 at 11:19 am
BK, just remember that it’s the poor perimiter defense that makes the interior players look bad.
Kyle Weaver should go a ways to help that out in this years draft.
February 28th, 2008 at 11:27 am
Hey Carlos. I agree an even better defensive center than Collison would help but it will be very hard to get.
DK discusses some of the decent names but I don’t think that particular Sea-Ind-Port trade would get support from Portland.
February 28th, 2008 at 11:29 am
(By the way Carlos your writing came thru fine.)
February 28th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
BK, just remember that it’s the poor perimiter defense that makes the interior players look bad.
Yeah… I understand that, but it’s not like our interior defense is good either. We gave up 72 points in the paint so I think everyone is to blame last night. It was pointed out earlier that the Nuggets only shot 16 ft attempts. Who gives up 72 points in the paint w/o putting someones ass on the ground? We lost any toughness we had when we traded KT.
On the other end we were getting penetration and post postition on Denver all night only to be stripped of the ball and blocked. What a luxury to have someone like Camby on your team.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
There was only one positive in this game, and it was Durant attempting 9 ft’s. Everything else is pretty disgusting. Oh well, it’s not like we should expect this team to win any decent amount of games the rest of the way.
February 28th, 2008 at 1:18 pm
I got em winning 4 more. Miami, Split the next two with Minnesota, Sacramento, and the Clippers
February 28th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Gelly is now the 2nd most efficient shooter on the team besides Wilcox. I think he has done pretty well as the PG - aside from getting his arm chopped off by Baron Davis. It is not as if Luke or Earl made a habit of dribble driving - which seems to me to be the key to a great PG.
Overall, Gelly and Collison are the 2 best Sonics. Period.
February 28th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
“Overall, Gelly and Collison are the 2 best Sonics. Period.”
If thats really the case. We are in serious trouble.
February 28th, 2008 at 3:44 pm
I’ve been looking all day for blogs or articles about how pitiful the Sonics were last night…haven’t found many, but glad to see some people frustrated about last night’s loss. I’m a huge Sonic fan and have been for a long time, but I was at the game and it was by far the most pathetic game of basketball I’d ever seen in terms of effort or passion from the Sonics ever. And I don’t like the fact that they were “weary” and coming off of a back to back. I don’t care how tired you are, you still have to have some pride. The Nuggets scored 38 points in the 4th quarter…Taurean Green? Steven Hunter?? Yakhouba Diawara??? The Nuggets were running up the score, pressing in the 4th, laughing on the bench while signing autographs, while more than half of the fans in the arena were sporting Iverson jerseys and the Sonics didn’t have enough pride to foul ONE Nugget while they were on their way to another layup or dunk? 67% FG?!? I know the Sonics’ talent sucks right now and our bench looks like a washed up NBDL team, but have some pride. Almost makes me wish Isiah Thomas was our coach just because I know he would’ve ordered a flagrant foul to send a message…Almost.
Please, someone else tell me they were disgraced to be a Sonic fan last night.
February 28th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
Myk said: “You know why the Nuggets won tonight?? Cause they shot 67%…this might be the single biggest beat down I’ve ever seen.”
Don’t say it too loud - you’ll get Dipper started.
February 28th, 2008 at 4:28 pm
I once played in a rec league tournament with 4 of my cousins, all under 5-6, and we matched up against a team composed entirely of former D1 and D2 players. We lost 176-76 but I swear to you we were more competitive than the Sonics last night.
