3/12/08 Box Score: Sonics 82 Celtics 111

Posted on Wednesday, March 12th, 2008 at 11:35 pm by Big Chris

I think Frank Chopp and his hacker goons took the site down earlier. As I tried posting this box score a few hours ago, the whole site crashed (not related to my post).

The simple summary is we got an old fashioned butt whoopin’ tonight. The Celtics showed at every facet why they are a contender for the NBA title and we are not. It was nice to see Ray Allen, probably the highlight of the game for most Seattle Supersonics fans.

Kevin Durant led the Sonics in scoring with 16 points and 3 blocks. Johan Petro had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Earl Watson 11 points and 7 assists. Everyone got some run tonight on both squads. Francisco Elson left the game with an apparent leg injury. Mike Wilks and Adrian Griffin led the Sonics in +/- with +3 each.

The unofficial box score from tonight’s game.

  1. AK1984 Says:

    -31

    Defense wins championships.

  2. Crow Says:

Do they start 3 rookies next year? I assume they get to that at least by mid-season. And with that they will fall behind early regularly and team record is likely to sub .400 again, probably well below again.

I get the feeling that PJ will start to get heat from Presti next season. And Presti may start getting heat from Bennett late in that season or year 3.

Clay with the teardown you didnt get a guaranteed escalator ride back up under Presti.

It is of course real early to say but I don’t think it will be a quick one (within 3 years) and the odds of it not working are probably nearly as big or bigger than working.

  3. Myk Says:

    -31

    Defense wins championships.

    - LOL…what…now that he has shot 50% over the last 8 or 9 games you just conveniently decide to remove that out of your argument. You are pretty amusing…Oh well, I am sure that if Durant had just played a little more defense they would’ve pulled this one out.

  4. Dick Tate Says:

Durant looked terrible trying to defend Ray, there’s no denyin’ it.

Intersting bit in the Times re. PJ’s pre-game comment about Wilcox:

Carlesimo acknowledged before the game that Wilcox tends to play better against lesser competition.

    Yep.

  5. Crow Says:

Statement about 3 rookie starters in my above post of course should have been 3 “real young guys” (rookie or newly turned into sophmores)

  6. Crow Says:

PJ also said something to the effect that Wilcox was part of long term core or could be or was hoped to be. Company line or true personal or team belief?

I don’t think he is but if they move him do they get more or less win-power? Another test case for Presti.

  7. Myk Says:

Carlesimo acknowledged before the game that Wilcox tends to play better against lesser competition.

    - In other news…he also tends to look taller than players who are under 6′5″

  8. Crow Says:

D West away from PJ and west coast is shooting a lot better but otherwise about the same.

Daddy again Wally Z is cold shooting rght now but playoffs will be the key time of course.

Cavs also give Lance Allred a 10 day. Good for him. Probably not a big deal but lets see what he does after sitting under the Sonics nose in Boise.

I tried to post a lengthy, in-depth rant againt Kevin Durant in the previous thread — which included a paragraph about the Texas Longhorns enhanced success this season with Connor Atchley having succeeded him in the lineup at power forward — but it didn’t make the cut for some asinine reason.

Let’s just say that Damion Jones, Atchley, Justin Mason, A.J. Abrams, and D.J. Augustin has been a more productive quintent than Jones, Durant, Mason, Abrams, and Augustin for these two reasons: defense & teamwork. A frequent poster here, McCoy, has talked about that in great detail a few times.

Funniest play I’ve seen all year… Shaq loose ball deja vu from the game Sunday where he dove on people:

  11. Crow Says:

After getting a dose of Kevin Garnett trash talk, Kevin Durant responded to a reporter with what might be as good as any Sonics rallying cry:

“I may be skinny but I’m not a punk.”
