game thread: Washington Wizards @ Seattle SuperSonics
Posted on Wednesday, March 26th, 2008 at 6:58 pm by Mr. Baker (thinking good thoughts for George Karl))
Wizards of the (east) Coast slide into Seattle to play the second of a back to back that saw the Wizards fall last night to Portland, 102 to 82.
No arena, or Arenas, talk tonight. He’s out.

Research:
1. Stern’s comments from this last summer and he spoke on behalf of the nba bog when they were offering to help fund a new arena for the Kings as their city has been waiting in “good faith” for a new building. Bennett should just be allowed to sell the Sonics and buy the Kings, Grizzlies, Bobcats or receive an expansion team for his troubles.
2. How much money did the Chicago Bull’s earn during the Jordan years? Seattle deserves to watch the SuperSonics continue to build into a dynasty after the 41 year investment…the NBA was supposed to be FANtastic….I’d support the OK Kings.

What the hell does that have to do with the Wizards and Sonics game tonight?
March 26th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Wilkin’s dad must be in the audience again tonight. He’s putting on quite a show
March 26th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
luke is running right through the Wizards like they are standing still, the Sonics are beating them down the floor, no reason not to keep running and know that you will get more layups.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:21 pm
watson can not walk the ball up, this is the second half of a back to back.
March 26th, 2008 at 8:25 pm
DC kids Green and Durant getting shown back home on local tv, they have to feel pumped up for that.

your hear that? save our sonics… SAVE OUR SONICS…. SAVE OUR SONICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
March 26th, 2008 at 9:14 pm
I don’t mind investing my time in watching the Sonics lose, because the percentages are increasing of getting one of the top picks in the draft.
As the Sonics lose, Bennett’s franchise increases in value. I don’t blame Ballmer and company for setting the April 10th deadline as Durant, Green and the rest of the Sonics mature like a fine wine.

Mr. Baker: you’re an ass. You can have this thread to yourself.

KD has figured this league out. Once his body catches up to his skills, the sky is the limit.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
KD’s first 30 point game of 2008 and Collison looked strong against the pathetic Wizards.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:26 pm
Durant may end up with a higher field goal percentage than both Carmelo Anthony and LeBron James from their rookie years; that the prospect of such a favorable statistical comparison is no longer wishful thinking speaks volumes as to the progress and gains that Durant has made this month.

If I have to sit through one more Earl Watson botch, i’m going to stab out my eyes.
Please get rid of Earl. He’s a shoot first pg with a broken shot that has choked far too many times when its really mattered to deserve any more chances.

AND IF OKC GETS THEM ILL BE SIPPIN FINE WINE WHEN DURANT BOLTS FOR GREENER PASTURES.

nebby, I am an ass. 400+ posts on two prior threads that were about the arena, how about a 90 minute break for the game, here on the game thread.
two freaking years of arena bullshit, and the first post on a game thread is more arena bullshit, and I am the ass, ok.

This was the worst coaching performance I’ve seen this year. In the post-game interviews, why don’t the reporters ever say, “P.J., why didn’t you take Luke out when you saw him getting manhandled by the Wizards double team?” Or “P.J., how come you were calling time-outs two possessions too late?” Or “P.J. why are you playing some people into exhaustion while leaving your two most dependable offensive players (Durant and Watson) on the bench for long stretches, including 6 minutes of the fourth quarter?” Or “P.J., have you ever thought about double-teaming a hot shooter? Or double-teaming anybody on the planet?” Or “P.J., have you ever considered isolating Durant on a post-up when he’s being guarded by much smaller 2s?” Or…Or…Or…Or…Or…
March 26th, 2008 at 10:00 pm
And Clint,
Why hammer on Watson? Ridnour was truly terrible tonight. Watson was a +6 on the court tonight. Luke was a -11.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:15 pm
lester, I do not think it was some strange desire to have an endless debate about two subpar point guards that prompted the comment, just my guess, but maybe he really does want another pg, but maybe that person is not Luke (I can only hope).
If it is a debate about those two almost starters then I retract my statement, and hope for the draft to arrive asap.

Maybe next game PJ will have somebody dive into the paint when a team double teams on every play, or, he will hope that the next team doesn’t double team.
WTF, that was horrible coaching. Cross under the basket and then go stand in the corner. How about a high screen and role once in a while, a real one, and not one called out of desperation by a pg looking around and seeing a house of wax.
March 26th, 2008 at 10:47 pm
I have to admit I was totally 100% wrong about PJ. At the time, I thought it was a good hire, even better than Casey or Brooks would’ve been. I thought PJ would’ve learned something from working with Popovich, and from winning championships with the Spurs. I thought PJ’s background with Team USA and as a college coach would help him teach the young Sonics. He wasn’t my first choice (I preferred Carlisle) but I was willing to give PJ a fair shot…
But God, PJ is an awful NBA coach. His substitutions are awful. His communication with the players is awful. His rotations are awful. His offensive and defensive sets are awful. His in-game adjustments are awful. His clock management and time out management is among the worst I’ve ever seen. PJ needs to either retire or go back to college, because the NBA game has long since passed him by.
Yeah, the roster sucks. Yeah, most of the players are mediocre at best. Yeah, the team is young. Yeah, they quit on the game from time to time. But PJ deserves more of the blame than the players ever do - because he has not, does not, and never will improve anything they do. There isn’t one aspect of the game that his coaching makes better than it would other wise be.
If/when Ballmer’s group buys the team, PJ will be the first change made by new ownership.
March 27th, 2008 at 12:19 am
He’s just doing his job (paid to tank).
March 27th, 2008 at 12:28 am
I just realized what PJ stands for: Poor Judgement. He’s washed up. Bennett can have him.

Watson has a habit of jacking up bad shots in transition at critical points in games when KD should be THE ONLY PERSON taking shooting. Actually, I recall this happening several times last year when Ray should have been taking the shot, too.
Watson delivered on this disappointment front yet again last night.
I hope he finds his way out of town sooner than later.

we’re really talking about the lesser of two evils. Earl’s three in transition with 15 seconds left was only a bad shot because he missed it (badly). Earl has played so many times better than Luke in the last month +
March 27th, 2008 at 9:16 am
I guess… who sucks more?
I favor Ridnour (slightly) just because he’s a pass-first point guard. That said, I’d pay someone to take both of them away in a heartbeat.
March 27th, 2008 at 10:44 am
Earl’s 3 in transition with 15 seconds left was only a bad shot because he missed it? He had Durant open on the 3 point line, is that what a point guard does, shoot first, pass second? That’s how they blew the 17 point lead, they stopped passing first, and started shooting first.
