4/8/08 Box Score: Sonics 83 Mavs 99
Posted on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008 at 9:37 pm by Big Chris
A good first half by your Seattle Supersonics, and then they ran out of steam. 3rd quarter was lackluster and 4th quarter poor in the performance category. The reality is that the Sonics lost the game on poor shooting, with credit to Dallas for some spurts of solid defense.
Earl Watson led the Sonics with 22 points and 8 assists. Kevin Durant chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds.
If it makes you feel any better tonight’s loss clinched the all time record for most losses in Sonics history. Umm…..yeah.

Is there a precedent for franchise swapping in the NBA or is there a real possibility of the Grizzlies relocating to Seattle?
Sadly, somebody was right about Sene.

I was watching NWCN Sports tonight and Paul Silvi shows a clip of King 5 interviewing Bastard Schultz. They ask him to comment on the Sonics situation and the smarmy ass motherfucker says with a smile, “I’m not here to talk about the Sonics, i’m here to talk about Starfucks coffee”. Interviewer says, “So you have no comment on the Sonics?” With a shit eating grin, the TRAITOR says, “No comment.” as he masturbates with his spread of Starfucks laid out in front of him.
I HATE that asshole with a passion.

I have two unrelated questions:
1) After watching Luke tilt at windmills yet again, I have to ask Myk why he still prefers our little matador PG to Earl Watson? The latter, though far from perfect or even laudatory, is at LEAST superior to little supergnat.
2) Why have our organizational efforts against Clay’s carpetbagging never manifested themselves in protests against Howard The Duck? “Busting Up A Starbucks” as the song suggests, is an easy target to vent your fury against the hated Mr Coffee. I’d love to picket the son-of-a-bitch, & tell him to drag his sorry ass to OKLAHOMA (OK?) with Clay.

Supposedly, recovery time for a torn meniscus is 2-3 months… so although I don’t see Sene playing in summer league, he theoretically should be ready by training camp…
Correct me if I’m wrong..
April 9th, 2008 at 5:49 am
60 losses later,
”I just didn’t think we played very smart,” Sonics coach P.J. Carlesimo said. ”It was more of the offensive shot selection. We had too many possessions where we didn’t get good shots. That hurt us more than anything else.”

Guys please watch the language and personal insults. We don’t like schultz. Doesn’t mean we have to be low class about it.
April 9th, 2008 at 7:53 am
Brian,
I live in Spokane, and may have the opportunity to slip away today and go to the Gregoire rally here in town. Do you know if they take questions? I’d be happy to put her on the spot regarding the special session.
April 9th, 2008 at 8:10 am
Well I was going to quote Dick’s comment…but due to Brian’s comment all I will say is:
LOL…pretty good summation DT.

1) After watching Luke tilt at windmills yet again, I have to ask Myk why he still prefers our little matador PG to Earl Watson? The latter, though far from perfect or even laudatory, is at LEAST superior to little supergnat.
- Well first off…I would never use one game to judge the two players. However, I will readily admit that Earl has played better during the months of February and March. Simply put, you can deal with Earl when he shoots a decent percentage. However, that is not something you can rely upon. Plus, his numbers during those two months are so outside the level of his natural performance levels of the past six years that there is no way you cannot consider this a fluke. Or even more likely, a bad player getting decent numbers on a horrible team (every bad team has these kinds of guys).
As for Ridnour…the guy has also put up similar months to the ones that Watson put up…and up until January 2007 he was always a better player statistically than Watson. Not sometimes, not most of the time…but every single year.
Two things happened since January of 2007.
1) The old basketball somehow effected Ridnour’s shooting (both before and after the ball his shooting was considerably worse)
2) Ridnour basically had his playing time completely slashed. This is an old chicken or the egg argument.
I believe option 1 has effected his performance and most anyone who has followed my posts doesn’t really think that number 2 is a valid argument for any player.
So, last year when we were having this debate about two players where one player had every year proven to be better than the other player. The only argument “for” the other player’s ability was his “defense”. The problem with those arguments are that this year if you use those same metrics the supposedly worse player is doing better than the great defensive player.
Anyways, long story short. Both players aren’t very good. Watson is probably playing at the absolute peak for a really horrible team and during the entire time of this peak the team has won like 2 games. On the other hand, you have Ridnour who has basically fallen off of the face of the Earth. My argument this summer was that the fifth year is almost always the year that the player makes “the leap” if it is going to happen. Therefore, based on this performance I think you can deduce that “the leap” isn’t going to made (especially not in Seattle…).
PG continues to be a gaping hole on this team.
April 9th, 2008 at 8:48 am
This all really does go back to Howard and I would love to villify him to his face. This was the guy who referred early on to the sonics as a public trust.I respect Brians wishes but words will never describe the hate I feel for Him and for what he has doneto Sonic fans I suppose now he doesn’t even care
Whats the head count for thursday.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:08 am
Percey Allen has a great piece today on our denial that the Sonics are gone.
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/sonics/2004336156_denial09.html
I think it’s fan to say that most fans are either in Denial, Anger or Depression. I know that I reached depression in March when Durant stopped shotting all though 20+ footers and started to play like the star that he’s about to come. I think the height my depression over Sonics potential move came after the Denver win. I see 72 points from Durant and Green and think to myself, we as Sonics fans are not going to get see these guys grow in all-stars. And don’t sell me any crap that we can turn to Trail Blazer or try to have Allen move them. Anyways, the point is that although there is hope of saving Sonics in Seattle it like having a dear friend or family member with inoperable cancer. You know they have only months left, maybe they can extend it a year, maybe even two. All the while you know they’ll be gone and not nearly the same vibrant entry you once knew them as being.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:16 am
I read an encouraging piece this morning in the PI.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:18 am
Ditto Myk’s comments re PG situation.
Both are sucking. I (completely subjectively) slightly prefer Luke’s offensive game (when he’s on and running team well) to Watson’s tenacious D, grit and passion (When he’s not killing team offensively).
It’s a fun debate and people have great points about both…but bottom line is Watson has been more consistent and better overall this year, but the team needs an upgrade.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:27 am
Howard the F*ck!
Neither PG is good. Both are NBA backups. Period. Arguing which one is less bad is pointless.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:34 am
So, if the sonics somehow stay in seattle, who would you rather have as our future PG’s backup? Ridnour or Watson?
I think Watson would be a better choice but… he’s been known for his attitude about not starting. In the other hand Rid doesn’t play any D but is not like he will be defending the best pgs playing backup minutes, the question would be: can he be an offensive booster off the bench?
I’d like to hear your thoughts about it
April 9th, 2008 at 9:34 am
I mean read your thoughts…
April 9th, 2008 at 9:35 am
We will draft a real point this year.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:40 am
All throughout this rollercaoster ride has there been any day that has been lower than today? I can’t think of one.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:46 am
So, if the sonics somehow stay in seattle, who would you rather have as our future PG’s backup? Ridnour or Watson?
- I would take Watson simply because I dont think Ridnour can succeed in this city. That doesn’t mean I think Watson is the better player. In all honesty I would choose neither as a back up PG…
April 9th, 2008 at 9:48 am
So, if the sonics somehow stay in seattle, who would you rather have as our future PG’s backup? Ridnour or Watson?
I would try to sign Chris Duhon this summer and then swap Earl & Luke for whatever.
April 9th, 2008 at 9:55 am
All throughout this rollercaoster ride has there been any day that has been lower than today? I can’t think of one.
- I feel better today then I felt on the day the Soncis were sold. When you talk about the 5 steps like Percy discussed I’m pretty close between the Depression/Acceptance stage.
I don’t find it logical…but the NBA has done very little that is logical.
April 9th, 2008 at 10:03 am
I like the “just so no” stance and bleed them dry two more years.
I think something will get done, i’m probably a fool but we’ve been down this road before.
April 9th, 2008 at 10:04 am
DON’T GIVE UP! This is exactly what Stern and Clay Clay want. They want us to forget about the SUPES staying and make it easier to steal our team.OUR TEAM! It makes no sense at all to move the SUPES and then give us another team. Give Clay Clay the other team. PLEASE! I can’t make the rally Thursday, but I will be at the game on Sunday and can’t wait. Lets make the KEY so loud they can’t ignore us anymore.DON’T GIVE UP! It’s not over yet by a long shot. Just remember those images of the SEAHAWK FANS blocking the moving trucks back when they were gone to L.A. The SUPES are here forever! NO EXPANSION AND NO TRADING TEAMS. WE WANT THE SUPES!!!!!!!!!
April 9th, 2008 at 10:07 am
I’m pretty close between the Depression/Acceptance stage.
I was at that point last week. However, after seeing [edit] [edit] Schultz’s [edit] [edit [edit] [edit] mug on the tube, i’ve revisited the raging anger stage.
April 9th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Does anyone know if there is going to be a rally before the game Sunday or of anything going on during the game to show our support?
April 9th, 2008 at 11:19 am
Times: “There is always a number somewhere that the mayor or council would say, ‘We have to take that,’ ” Carr said. But he added, “We haven’t thought about what it might be.”
April 9th, 2008 at 11:29 am
BR… Is there still hope?
Seeing this arena deal go down the drain for me has tipped me from believig the Sonics will stay to believing they will leave. I do believe the NBA wants NO part of the lawsuit or a 2-year lame duck situation - BUT - I just can’t see Nichols and the city council fighting to keep the Sonics here for 2 years just to have them leave while leaving a huge Multi-million dollar settlement on the table.
With an arena deal in place I think Nichols has the better cards & could call Sterns/Clay’s bluff & they would cave in and force Clay to sell
With no arena deal the city does not have the cards - and Stern can call Nichols bluff & I think they will cave.
Just how I see it - Hope I’m wrong
April 9th, 2008 at 11:58 am
I would encourage as many of us as possible to call KJR today & this week & get on the air & encourage fans to:
1. Attend this SOS rally where Gregorire is speaking
2. Get tickets ot the Dallas Game on April 13 & help show Gregoire, Nichols, Ballmer, NBA owners etc. that there is alot of support for keeping the team here
3. Write/Call Gregoire again & ask her for a special session
I’m not hopeful of Gregoire doing anything - but feel like I need to do what I can until the buzzer sounds so I’m going to keep trying.
This blog is great - but I think calling KJR & voicing this on the air will generate the most participation at this point beyond what can be generated on this blog.
April 9th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Nobody’s died here. Percy Allen’s column is just wamed over, cheap psycho analysis. Ugh. It ain’t over yet (do we need to drag Dick Motta out of his Idaho bed and breakfast retirement to reprise his infamous ‘fat lady’ line?). I will save my grieving for dead people, or briefly for a sports franchise that is actually gone.. And, btw, fuck Howard Schultz. (Yeah, I’m angry. Happens when you get lied to…)

Man, Dick Tate, I really wish you could have been the interviewer. And I guess the word “classy” is pretty relative, ’cause you were long overdue on those choice words.
April 9th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
From Greg Johns’ story in today’s P-I:
=====
In a statement, Gorton said the city recently asked the state to authorize the city’s ability to impose a hotel-motel fee to raise the $75 million, but those attempts also were rebuffed.
=====
This point needs to be hammered home. This wouldn’t be state money…it wouldn’t be the (ahem) stadium tax money that everyone seems to be lining up for…it wouldn’t be an extra 50 cents on your $100 dinner…it wouldn’t be extra $ for those locals who argue that they sometimes need to rent vehicles here…this would be purely visitor-generated. Where is the downside here?
And yet Olympia (I’m guessing King Chopp) couldn’t be bothered. What an absolute joke.
April 9th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
“Guys please watch the language and personal insults. We don’t like schultz. Doesn’t mean we have to be low class about it. ”
This comment is why there isn’t many Sonic fans on this site.
How many Sonic fans do you think come on this site? 1000?
Sonics fans are obsolete and so is this “high class” site.
Where are all the Sonic fans below 40?
Ya thats what I thought…
SoS needs some serious recruiting or the Supes are goners.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:00 pm
All you old farts need to step it up.
Seriously is thier anyone under the age of 35 who posts regularly on this site? No?
Good job “high class” Sonics fans. Your scaring away all the young, future fans of the Supes.
This is our fanbase at this site? 100-1000 people?
Pathetic.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:01 pm
Some guy on that P.I. blog was arguing for the National Hockey League! The NHL! Hahahahahaahahahahahaahahaha
April 9th, 2008 at 1:04 pm
And why are some posters here and there thinking this is a Democrat versus Republican thing? I”m a lefty commie Democrat trying to save the Sonics and about 90% of my basketball-playing buddies are also lefty commie Dems (while a couple of my righty Libertarian hoop friends are vehemently againt public tax stadium funding). In fact, as you argue for the NBA, you are arguing for Democrats, since an overwhelming majority of the players are Dems (and quite a few owners are Dems, as well).
April 9th, 2008 at 1:05 pm
“Where are all the Sonic fans below 40?”
Here.
So, what exactly have you done to keep the Sonics in town Jr.?
April 9th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
JGreen!
Sorry to burst your bubble but the traffic on this site has nothing to do with the interest in keeping the team here.
Save Our Sonics has “members” of every age group. Daily we get emails from everyone from 9 years old to 79 years also asking what they can do to help.
We have “members” from nearly every state and across both oceans.
Since it is an all volunteer group and there is no “membership” oath or fees it is difficult to give exact numbers of who is involved but we do know that we connect to almost 10,000 people with our effort.
Sure we want to recruit more, that is always the goal, but without an advertising budget and being barely known outside Seattle and King County we feel we have done a very good job of getting the word out.
But here is the bottom line…
… how many people have YOU recruited?
YOU are SOS just as much as those you see doing the daily work.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
Yeah,
Isn’t it funny how that youngster can tell people’s ages by their blog posts? He’s a genius!
April 9th, 2008 at 1:07 pm
JGreen - You don’t have to come here. If you are such a big shot you are welcome to start your own blog and recruit your own playas, ho. Probably because you don’t know how or your mommy limits your internet minutes.
I’m under 40 by the way.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
As for the point guard debate. Watson has played very well for two months now, and it’s the first extended period of time in his career when he’s played starter minutes, so it’s impossible to tell if it’s a fluke. It’s a statistical anomaly, certainly, but let’s see if he continues to play this well next year (Rose would certainly beat him out for starter but I don’t think May or Bayless or Gordon would, not yet).
April 9th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
“And why are some posters here and there thinking this is a Democrat versus Republican thing?”
Word. And for some reason people keep forgetting that the ONLY politician currently in office that is doing one damn thing to keep the team here is a democrat.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:12 pm
Mayo, I mean. And remember, if we don’t get one of the first two picks in the draft, it’s likely we’re going to take Lopez. So it’s quite probable we won’t be drafting a PG in the first round. Watson and Ridnour could still be out PGs next year.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
I’ve gone to this site for atleast a year now.
I see how you “regulars” treat anyone new who doesn’t have the same views as you.
Typical old man “I’m a “regular” so i’m right and your wrong” attitude.
Just letting you guys know of past failures. You take it how you want. But this site should have expanded with the 35 and under crowd alittle more in the past.
Save or Sonics.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
“Seriously is thier anyone under the age of 35 who posts regularly on this site? No?”
I’m 27 and post fairly often on this site.
Do i qualify as someone under the age of 35 to you?
April 9th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
- Im under 40….
- Considering we are one of the top 5 visited team blogs in the league I’m pretty sure we have enough Sonics fans here…but thanks for asking.
- Finally, yes…! The reason someone doesn’t come to this site is because they want to see more angry childish (not that it wasn’t deserved DT) insults towards a public figure. I know that when I talk to people they say: “I want to go to Sonicscentral.com more often, but it is the Internet and there just isn’t enough swearing for my taste”
PS: Apostle has put me in a foul mood…hypocrites really bother me. You can argue for your side…and I can argue strongly for my side. Just don’t be a hypocrite and I will respect you (but not necessarily agree with you)
April 9th, 2008 at 1:23 pm
Typical old man “I’m a “regular” so i’m right and your wrong” attitude.
- If you can’t stick up for your opinion on an Internet board where you have basic anonymity then you probably shouldn’t be visiting any blogs where your opinion is required.
We may have disagreements (people disagree with me all the time), but if you stick up for yourself your opinion is heard and reflected upon by the rest of the group of individuals who presumably share a similar set of interests as your.
I also find it odd that you are judging the age of the posters. I would say stubborness is much more a sign of young age then old age…
April 9th, 2008 at 1:25 pm
I’m sorry. I just would have liked if people on this site would welcome every Sonic fan to this site. (Im talking about those who THINK they are intellectually superior than others.)
Not every Sonic fan is an uptight 40 year old.
April 9th, 2008 at 1:27 pm
Expand and change your uptight ways.
Oh, its too late…

I’m 16, I read all the stuff everyday. My friends and I go to Sonics games and we usually take the bus. Language doesn’t really matter, there’s a lot worse out there. I think we’ve been to nice to the politicians, I think they need to be slammed on all accounts. The nice E-mails didn’t do much. Just my opinion.

- He’s actually saying that the language isn’t bad enough…
I’m sorry. I just would have liked if people on this site would welcome every Sonic fan to this site. (Im talking about those who THINK they are intellectually superior than others.)
- I’d like to hear more on how we don’t welcome every Sonic fan to this site? Considering this site is consistently in the throws of some sort of back and forth debate I do not see how a Sonic fan could come here and feel that their opinion is not being represented…
I mean there was that one guy who spent an entire day saying Ridnour was a good/great defensive player. Even I couldn’t defend that claim…but he was allowed to make his point.
You want to go to a place that does not really allow for every type of opinion you should check out USS Mariner.

Post in moderation…mods, please take a look when you have a moment. Don’t want my point to get too buried in the thread. Thanks!

See Jeff, he’s sixteen and doesn’t sound like a whiney single child at a Yahtzee party. Take notes.

Under 40….and I’m very immature. Been posting here since I was 22. With that said when I was younger I didn’t know sh*t. But you’ll never realize that until you get older. It just comes with the territory. This isn’t myspace or facebook or the PI forums.

“I’ve gone to this site for atleast a year now.
I see how you “regulars” treat anyone new who doesn’t have the same views as you.”
I’ve been on it 8 years now. Its not who you are…….its what you say. If you put out an idea that people don’t agree with……your going to hear about it on this site. There are plenty of regulars who some people will never agree with.
If you take it personally, or are scared to post things……thats your own personal problem. Welcome to real life.

- Its the old saying “I’m not young enough to know everything”…and I know I fall into this category sometimes as well.

For the record, I’m among those who fit the “under 35″ category.

From Greg Johns’ story in today’s P-I:
=====
In a statement, Gorton said the city recently asked the state to authorize the city’s ability to impose a hotel-motel fee to raise the $75 million, but those attempts also were rebuffed.
=====

Age is an attitude.
Save the Sonics.
Be polite to the Governor. She may actually DO something before this is all over.

“Oklahomos” brilliant- I am still a little disappointed that no one has referenced Lou Gossett Jr. and “Steers and Queers” but then again after reading through this board it is obvious that no one writing is over 13 years old and wasn’t born yet. ”
I found this gem from Ryan particularly amusing given JGreen’s observation above.
Note that Ryan’s comes from a previous thread.

jumping on this a little late (always happens as im posting from australia) jgreen i hear you, i dont always feel welcome, but you know what? i dont care either. im 26, and im here because im a sonics fan. you have no idea how much i wish i was in seattle to actually help, but im not and i cant. i rely on the people here to give me info, and run the ground operations. i dont always agree with them or their methods, but i respect what they are doing. your never going to get everyone to agree with you, never, its life. menace and i had a semi disagreement last week, but you know what, i dont hate him for it, i actually respect him for it, because he could have just ignored me all together. instead he got his point across and gave me a few things to think about, and there is one thing he said that i totally agree with, WE are all here for the same reason = save the sonics. if you want a youth movement, please feel free to start one. 2 groups fighting to save the sonics is better than one. just remember this, if you get violent or confrontational in your efforts and cost us the sonics then it is YOU that will have to live with it. i understand why brian and steve do thing the way they do, its political and you have to tread carefully. doesnt mean i fully agree with the way they do it, i personally would be more agressive, but in the end that is youth speaking. i am actualyy glad at the end of the day that cooler heads are running things here. so post away, take the heat for dumb ass posts, take in the constructive criticizms, throw in a few of your ideas, done get offended so easily and most of all save our sonics. it is after all the reason we are all here right???? we all need to stop this infighting because it is playing right into the assholes hands, unite and fight.
