Sonics Vs. Spurs Game Thread: In Honor of Kevin Calabro
Posted on Friday, April 11th, 2008 at 4:07 pm by Xteve
Truly one of the coolest guys on earth. He is more than just a great voice.
Last game for KC tonight if we don’t win this battle fellas. This guys not going to OKC.
Pelton’s Place
Apparently Clay Bennett will be in attendance tonight, hopefully providing grist for the mill and plenty of talk about his emails of late and his bizarre man-crush on David Stern…
The following perfectly describes my feelings for Washington government at this point —
““They are decided only to be undecided, resolved to be irresolute, adamant for drift, solid for fluidity, all-powerful to be impotent. ”
-Winston Churchill
Prove me wrong Chris.

Hey, I just shook hands with Joe Satriani.
Maybe it’s not such a bad day after all.
April 11th, 2008 at 4:14 pm
I like that Bennett has been reduced to watching the team he owns in other states.
April 11th, 2008 at 4:40 pm
Where did you see Satriani?
And Kevin Callabro says tonight will be his last game if Sonics move next season.

KC is one of the good guys, no doubt. Wonder what you do next though after calling the NBA for 21 yrs?
April 11th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
I love Kevin Calaboro.
Almost as much as Clay loves David, but not quite.
Seriously, he is one classy, classy guy and that is one classy, classy move.
April 11th, 2008 at 5:09 pm
Bennett at the game tonight? How ironic its in San Antonio. Think about this thought.. it could be his last time watching the Sonics live in person as an owner. He is going down and will fork the team over to Seattle! Holla!
April 11th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
“Last game for KC tonight”
just another reason why the Sonics should not be leaving Seattle…
April 11th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
This pisses me off more than almost anything else about the Sonics situation… losing guys like KC. You cannot replace him. He’s an amazing part of the fabric of our community. This announcement has left tears in my eyes.
Meanwhile, please get on this poll everyone:

you can refresh your browser and vote as many times as you like.

why the hell isn’t the game on FSN?
I’m a little pissed.
April 11th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
GAMES ON 117
April 11th, 2008 at 5:38 pm
Channel 117 if you have Comcast.
April 11th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
Just turned on the game….. has KC made his announcement yet?
April 11th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
yeah, I know. I don’t have digital cable. Just the basic thing. Pissed.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
“KC is one of the good guys, no doubt. Wonder what you do next though after calling the NBA for 21 yrs?” {pdway}
As a NBA play-by-play announcer, Kevin Calabro could probably get a national gig with either ABC/ESPN or TNT.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
why is this the last game for k.c? and who calling the home game on sunday?
April 11th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
I think KC is one of the classiest people i’ve met. When i went to the Kings vs Sonics game here this year I was able to go down and meet Kevin and he said hi to my dad on the phone back in Seattle. I was really impressed that a guy who is that well know would take the time to take a second and talk to the little guy like me. I hope that he ends up somewhere good because he deserves it. As much as i am not a Kings fan, the two guys down here calling games are awful and KC would be a great replacement especially since he started with the Kansas City Kings.
April 11th, 2008 at 6:54 pm
nevermind, just read the article..kc is one of the great and his voice will be missed on sunday. just have to wait til next year to hear him in seattle!..go sonics!
April 11th, 2008 at 6:58 pm
Ugh, the thought of KC not calling sonics games just really drives home how dire this situation is with the team. He’s been the one constant with the sonics since I started following them.
Get on up for the down stroke!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Fly’n chickens in a barnyard!!!!!!!

oh, and if it’s any consolation prize, the T-wolves won tonight. That pretty much locks up 2nd worst record in the league.
Oh boy!

April 11th, 2008 at 7:10 pm
Well, that didn’t take long. Clayton Satan from OKC is already being used as a case study on what not to do if you want to be a good business person (don’t lie, duh). Here’s Crisisblogger talking about our favorite poster child for idiot businessmen everywhere:

Now we gotta start prayin’ that the lottery balls bounce our way. If we get shafted and don’t land a top-3 pick, I’m gonna lose it. Watch the Blazers get another top-3, and we get stuck picking at number 5. UGH!!! Maybe Clay can give Stern some man love right before the lottery and Stern will make sure the balls come out in Clay’s favor (no pun intended).
Damn, Derrick Rose would look great in Sonics green and gold!!!
Go SUPES!!!!
April 11th, 2008 at 7:36 pm
It’s so sad listening to the commentators tonight talking about their memories and thanking the crew and the fans.
“I hope you guys will be out there on Sunday to welcome the Sonics home.”
April 11th, 2008 at 8:06 pm
It will not be KC’s last game because Sonics are staying in Seattle. I do not see how or why that Clay could move the team to OKC? If BOG decides to approve the relocation then they are asking for it. Because Seattle will file another lawsuit and go after them. I don’t think Clay can ever get out of this mess unless he sells back the team.
I am kind of wondering why it is taking so long for David Stern to make some kind of announcement about this mess? He usually act on any situation that may damage the NBA, like for instance with that referee D something. Unless David Stern is really pissed off and trying to convince Clay to sell or trying to find the excuses?
April 11th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
The NBA.com schedule for Wednesday is interesting. It says ESPN will air the Jazz-Spurs game at 9:30ET and Sonics-Warriors at 10:30ET. ESPNtv.com says Jazz-Spurs starts at 8:00ET. What’s going on?
Obviously the Sonics game will be meaningless to playoff seeding, plus the league doesn’t want our situation broadcast to a national audience for 2+ hours. Could NBA/ESPN scratch the final game and give it back to FSN?
April 11th, 2008 at 8:18 pm
well at least the game was a blow out. I hope clay was embarrassed by the craptacular team he’s been able to create.
lol, once we get the team back, Balmer should sue him for incompetence. Is it possible to sue someone for being an idiot? If so, clay better watch out. He’s gonna lose every penny his wife’s family’s ever given him.

RE: lottery
By lottery night, we should have a good idea what’s going on with the team. if we’re keeping the team, then yes, we pray for the #1 pick. If we’re losing the team, then we pray for #5.
April 11th, 2008 at 8:23 pm
Once Ronald Dupree’s ten-day contract with the Seattle SuperSonics expires after Sunday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks, I’d like to see Bobby Jones — whose ten-day contract with the San Antonio Spurs expired earlier today — be signed by the ballclub for remainder of the season.
Although the Sonics’ season at that point will only include the finale versus the Golden State Warriors, it’d nevertheless be pretty sweet to have some local flavor on the floor in what could possibly be the team’s last game before relocating to Oklahoma City. Alas, that’s probably just a pipe dream.
April 11th, 2008 at 8:44 pm
Sonics will be here, KC has an out, he is the veteran Sonics guy saying what is important, roots, community, family, he still wants to be involved in the NBA, but he is not relocating because he is a Seattle guy.
The Sonics are staying, he can broacast next year, and he is still taking the time to voice his opinion.
“Two in the cake, and one in the puddin’”
Barry really messed with KC by feeding him “adult” lines. That was a great year in broadcasting.
April 11th, 2008 at 8:45 pm
Nevermind, Bobby Jones signed with the Denver Nuggets.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:10 pm
Sonics stay here next year.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:15 pm
This is KC’s only way to protest this freak show. I commend him on his bold move. This sends yet another message to the owners that this attempt to relocate is not good for basketball.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
my question is: So what if the BOG approves the move, the Sonics are under contract. IMO it’s as simple as that.
April 11th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
there is a lease with the city requiring the team to play all of its regular season games in Key Arena through 2010.
The team, and the league could end up in court showing that there was bad faith dealings. There is a chance that Bennett could lose the team through court action, an action that will require the league to disclose financial information that has been kept private for many years, and used to squeeze money out of all kinds of situations. Not a simple future beyond the BOG vote. To vote yes is a vote to expose the league to great risk with no actual benefit in moving a team to a much smaller, and less wealthy, market.
April 12th, 2008 at 1:01 am
Please go and vote NO on the ESPN poll now to their Question “Should the NBA allow the Sonics to leave Seattle”. There’s only been 9,000 votes and it’s still a 50-50 tie. We need to get it to 60 or 70% NO votes and send a message to them.
Here’s the link:
http://sports.espn.go.com/chat/sportsnation/index
You can vote more than once if you hit your back button then just click the link again. I don’t know how soon they are closing the poll, but it could be real soon. Don’t vote “Yes” by mistake like one of our members did because he misread the question.
Remember you’re saying NO to Clay and David and all other crooks and liars. Just say NO to them moving our Sonics! Vote NO now! It takes 3 seconds tops. And remember to vote often.
April 12th, 2008 at 1:07 am
Kevin Calabro IS Seattle Supersonics.
Sad if this all goes down we wont hear the Great KC anymore..
April 12th, 2008 at 1:39 am
I just voted “NO” on the ESPN board and now the survey is stand still at 50-50!!!!!!!!
I’m p!ssd about KC’s last game not broadcasted in my house.
I still don’t know who is responsible for these last three games being shown on alternative channels that I DON”T HAVE!!!!!!
Fuking Bennett, I should’ve slashed his throat the last time I met him in person…
We will miss you KC.
“CALL GRANDMA, WE HAVE A GAME HERE!!!”
“GET ON THE MAGIC CARPET AND RIDE BABY!!”
“FLYING CHICKENS IN THE BARN YARD”
“CAN HUMAN BEINGS FLY??? YOU BET YA!!!!!”
April 12th, 2008 at 9:31 am
I really can’t believe that if the Sonics leave, we won’t here the best voice in basketball represent our city…
April 12th, 2008 at 11:50 am
How spoiled we once were here in the NW…
April 12th, 2008 at 12:50 pm
1800 tickets remain for Sunday nights game - great progress for a sellout!
Get to this game & bring friends!
April 12th, 2008 at 3:11 pm
Yeah we had it great here for a long time…
The team -
The Glove
Reignman
Big Smooth
Mac 10
The Det-onator
The Hawk
George Karl
The airwaves -
Calabro, the best of all time
Locke, Dr. Breakdown
I can’t stand the broadcast package we have now. I listened to one radio game since they took away the Calabro simulcast and was bored out of my mind. That guy sucks. The after game talkers blow. I used to go to the game and hurry to my car to listen to Calabro/Locke dish it out all the way home. Now I take my time and once I get to the car I listen to all the ‘nutty’ people calling George Noory all the way home (which is actually 90% commercials anyway - wow, I’m taking commercials over the Sonics guys).
I hope once we get the team issues straightened out and the team is secured then we can work on getting things right. Move back to KJR (better yet, an FM station with signal - how can I not get signal on 5th ave, blocks from the Space Needle?). Bring back KC on the TV/Radio simulcast. Get some entertaining, smart people to ‘break it down’.
We could have it all again. Except for the players
