Sonics vs Warriors Game Thread

Posted on Wednesday, April 16th, 2008 at 3:50 pm by Xteve

Pelton’s Place

Good luck finding this on TV anywhere after David Stern likely tried to yank it off ESPN in a fit of pique, or to limit discussion of impending litigation.

And so we come to the final game of the worst season in Sonics history.

All I can say is thank God this season is over. Honestly the entire experience of this year has almost (not quite, but almost) completely soured me on the NBA as entertainment.

So David Stern, if you’re reading this, first of all … you sir, are a tool. I never thought I’d ever see the day where I thought Gary Bettman was a better commissioner than you, but here we are. Secondly, you’ve miraculously managed to kill off about 95% of my enthusiasm and my interest for your league, its products and players. And in case you didn’t know, I’m a guy who used to memorize the Street and Smith entry for every player on every NBA roster just 10 or 12 years ago. There wasn’t a bigger NBA fan than me in those days. So from the bottom of my black little heart, thanks Dave (I can call you Dave, can’t I? After all, I’ve been watching and laughing at you standing next to #1 draft picks who are two feet taller than you for nigh on two decades now-), big sticky thanks in fact, for killing the joy. I’ll see what I can do to return the favor.

To the SC.com faithful: Maybe I’ll see some of you when the draft rolls around? Here’s hoping that when next season rolls around not only will we have some players to get excited about, but hopefully some positive news that this team, this sport that brings us all together from disparate parts of not only the US, but the world itself will have found a way to mend itself and become what it once was to me, and I expect to many of you.

Thanks as always for your readership of my often disjointed ramblings and your conversation. As a group you comprise the most passionate, intelligent sports fans community I have ever seen and it’s often humbling to see your dedication. I am proud to be associated with this site and with you all. Take care of yourselves in the offseason and talk to y’all soon.

  1. David M. Brown, MD Says:

I guess David Stern is really getting rattled, huh? We may be throwing a monkey wrench in the emperor’s grand scheme. He is so petty and vindictive - I don’t know why the owners would keep him on as commish. Hopefully, someone will challenge his “leadership”. It’s a real shame that we can’t see we can’t see the Sonics’ last game on TV, but I know David wants to get as much revenge as he can, while he can still enjoy it. After all, he may be on his way out soon. :-)

  2. Otto Says:

David Thorpe on Kevin Durant’s year:

    1. Kevin Durant, SuperSonics
Durant is my clear-cut choice for rookie of the year. It might have taken him awhile to figure out how best to take advantage of his talents, but at least he did so before season’s end, as many rookies don’t.

He is not just a future All-Star, but perhaps an Olympic gold medalist, an NBA Finals MVP and even a member of an All-NBA first team. LeBron James might be the world’s best player right now, but a focused and dedicated Durant can give him a run for that top billing one day. Remember, Durant still is just 19 years young. And he will get stronger and smarter and more skilled.

I see a time when he will make a living in the post against smaller defenders while scorching taller guys with dribble-drives or coming off screens. In short, he can be an unguardable player, one who will draw special defensive looks from his opponents on a nightly basis. And by studying the game from a defensive perspective, he can make a huge leap in his off-the-ball defense and become a key factor on that end of the floor as well.

  3. Mr. Baker Says:

If I read the story backwards does it say “Steve is dead”?

Thanks, Steve, for the references that captured the essence.

For the newer readers, there is an unusual amount of activity on this site in the offseason, as compared to others. And I don’t mean, “who is the greatest rock band ever” stuff like you might find on the Blazer’s ESPN message board mid-August. (knock it off, you know it’s true).

Let’s get it going. win one because you shouldn’t.

  4. Cat in the Hat Says:

When I set my DVR last week to record tonights game on ESPN, I swore it said Seattle vs. Warriors, but now it says Utah vs. San Antonio.

If anyone knows what channel the game will be on please post. Thanks.

  5. Steve Says:

“If I read the story backwards does it say “Steve is dead”?

Thanks, Steve, for the references that captured the essence.”

Paul is dead. I was the walrus. Goo goo g’joob.

  6. EJ Says:

I don’t know about you guys. But I’m not going anywhere simply because the season is over. For me, I haven’t been able to enjoy or really care about the games this entire year. So it won’t be any different. And the critical nature of things isn’t letting up just because there are no more games. Games schmames. This thing is going into overtime. SOS!

  7. Beej Says:

    Cat in the Hat

Game was probably pulled because Stern has no backbone.

  8. Mr. Baker Says:

ha ha, I don’t have a leg to stand on.

  9. BK Says:

According to the Times the game is on the alternate channel 7 station. 7.2 or 117 if you have comcast. Make sure to watch. Could be the last one.

  10. Steve Says:

PS Dr. Brown you have a reply to your questions in the other thread.

  11. coffeestain Says:

Breach -anti-trust-congressional hearing, patty murry, those are scary words to the nba!
believe it or not Patty murry can get dirty under the hoop just like lonnie shelton..

  12. Beebop Says:

Kind of sick how the Times shut down the Sonics board during this crucial time. Thanks for all the work you guys are putting in. You guys were just mentioned on KJR so I had to show you some love.

  13. MMM-MMM-Good Says:

The die hard from NY just wants to thank you for all you’ve done and for keeping my love for the game on life support as I have been ready to pull the plug so many times until reading one of your “rants” that revitalize me and keep me here for the fight!

  14. 5vs8 Says:

on the warriors blog it was mentioned that TNT was going to carry the game but they pulled it. don’t know if that was just being picked up in the bay-area market only, but the long arm of Stern seems to be at work again.

TNT is offering The Replacements, starring Keanu Reeves, instead of any ball at all. Is that a pity joke or what? I don’t know.

  15. Dick Tate Says:

Great post at the top, Steve. I share many of those thoughts.

Good luck to all of us fans during the coming days, weeks & months. Here’s hoping for some better days ahead.

Bummer about the lack of a broadcast. I won’t be able to listen either, since i’m outside the 5-mile radius of KTHH’s reach.

  16. Crow Says:

Thanks to Steve and Chris for the bulk of the daily and game threads / kick off articles that set the stage for the blog basketball discussion.

Not sure how things go from here but it has been and is a good spot for basketball fans.

  17. AK1984 Says:

Despite all of the chaotic turmoil, Steve and Big Chris did an outstanding job with the game threads this season.

  18. SeattleFan91 Says:

    Next game
    Sonics:
Wednesday at Golden St., 7:30 p.m. TV: Comcast 117, Dish 7.2. Radio: 770.

  19. David M. Brown, MD Says:

    Steve,
Thanks for your reply in the last thread, which I have now read and am still concerned about worms-parasites-viruses-malware, etc. Unfortunately, I downloaded it also. Thanks for letting me know here, which is how I found out about your other post. Do you help maintain this site? Who is the most tech-knowledgable?

Legal site claims Howard’s suit has no shot.

  21. jenn Says:

Doc Brown - my suggestion would be to update your virus definitions and run a full scan if you’re really worried about it.

If you don’t have a virus scanner (shame on you) there’s a really good free one called AVG that you can download at free.grisoft.com/.

If it helps, though, I clicked on it once on my computer here at work and my Symantec Antivirus didn’t even blink. So either my coverage sucks or it wasn’t a virus ;)

  22. kdizzle Says:

Is anyone going to be out watching the game anywhere? I’m kinda bummed about missing the Dallas game and getting a chance to meet some more of you guys…

  23. Pete Says:

FYI, if you are on Comcast Digital, you can get the game on channel 117.

Same as always when there’s an M’s game at the same time.

  24. EJ Says:

Man, the site sure was down for a good while just now. Grrrrr.

  25. SonicsNOW! Says:

I am getting so dam F*ing sick of people saying that this lawsuit has “NO CHANCE”…..a lot of attorneys have weighted in and said it has a very good chance. ESPN seems to be jumping on the “no chance” band wagon also….it’s just so easy to say “there’s no chance…” and “it’s impossible to prove good faith”. As I recall part of the suit is based on fraud at the time of sale, not just “good faith”.

  26. Paul Says:

Is there going to be a game on FSN for Sonics? I saw somewhere it will be showing on FSN? I am positive it said FSN.

  27. Zonics Says:

EJ. Interesting how the ABOVE THE LAW.com website is 3.5 miles away from NBA HQ.

    NBA:(645 5th Ave, New York, NY 10022)
Above the law.com:(262 Mott Street, Suite 102A, New York, NY 10012)

I smell a rat… I wonder how much Sterns lawyer past plays into this. Time to take the RED pill ladies and gents this is bigger and more corrupt then it seems and the depth of deception and propaganda is staggering. Next thing you know Bush will step in for Stern.

  28. Crow Says:

David B you can also check your windows/ temp and temp internet file folders and delete entries for the “login” and “forum” files that might be there as I did.

  29. Cat in the Hat Says:

I guess I will know in just a few minutes if the game will be on channel 117 here in Seattle. Somehow I doubt it will.

During the last game Brian Davis said it will be the last local FSN broadcast for the year.

Well, first off, during an interview one lawyer I believe referenced Yarmuth is one of..if not the best in the biz when it comes to these kinds of cases….so nuff said there. I don’t think the very best would take on a dud. Not to mention it was also stated that the Side Letter that Howard has is a very unique one…so….this isn’t one of those no chance letters. You have to remember that none of these guys have actually seen the letter….nor will they see it any time soon. There is a reason that David Stern is playing the cards he is….he knows that that he and Clay are in deep doodoo. If this letter gets released before the trial, I guarantee that many who are calling this no chance will change their tune dramatically.

  32. Crow Says:

In the future when the site is down I might suggest an alternative location for folks to post any useful information about it might be at supersonicsoul.com.

  33. David M. Brown, MD Says:

It would be great if FSN made a last minute decision to broadcast the game, but, somehow, I doubt it. They have the Mariners on right now. The Mariners always have priority on FSN over the Sonics. They showed the games on alternate channels before like 117, but I don’t think that’s the plan tonight.

Channel 117 is showing ‘Ironside’. Sucks.

  38. D_G Says:

Munson over at ESPN suggests that the owners may be supportive of the move b/c Bennett and Co. could file an anti-trust suit claiming that the NBA is acting as an illegal cartel in attempting to restrict ownership rights.

This possibility hadn’t occurred to me. I had considered the treat of an anti-trust suit played in Seattle’s favor.

I think it may be that the NBA faces a big time law suit no matter what the decision is. The only question is whose side will be filing it.

  39. David M. Brown, MD Says:

Crow, that sounds like a very good idea: SUPERSONICSOUL.com looks like a very nice blog and would be a good place to go to talk if we go down again for any length of time. Do you have anything to do with that blog? It has a nice look to it, but not much traffic. I’ll remember that - http://www.SuperSonicSoul.com. Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe we should post it elsewhere also.

  40. Paul Says:

I checked my cable tv guide and it says it is showing Sonics game on FSN in Yakima on hispanavision. I guess I will see if it will actual show the game at 7:30pm.

I just had a hope feeling that Howard Schultz will file the lawsuit and serve the paper to Clay Bennett at the BOG meeting with courier delivery! It will be neat!

Good work everyone today and we have made a loud noise around the US. The poll is showing 70 percent for Sonics to stay in Seattle.

  41. Crow Says:

I read it and comment there sometimes but that is all. It just seemed like a place most here know. Good articles. If you browse the back pages I think you’ll enjoy it. Light on comments but it shines in its own way.

  42. glennpdx Says:

D-G, If that’s the case (NBA gets sued for anti-trust either way), then the old proverb applies: He who lays down with dogs, gets up with fleas…

  43. 4020vision Says:

No anti-trust that’s only in Baseball I think.

  44. jenn Says:

Perry Mason on 117 here in Kenmore :(

  45. David M. Brown, MD Says:

Paul, where are you seeing the ESPN Sonics poll results. I can’t find it anymore and people are saying that the NBA (David Stern) asked ESPN to get rid of the poll because the results were not coming out the way he thought that they would and he didn’t want to be further embarrassed by the poll results. That is total speculation, but if they did get rid of the Sonics leaving Seattle poll, it makes complete sense. ESPN shouldn’t have an axe to grind, but David Stern certainly does. And David could threaten them if he wanted to with the loss of televised NBA games. Can you still see the poll and its results anywhere?

  46. glennpdx Says:

4020vision: Nope, it’s the other way around. Baseball is the only sport exempt from anti-trust laws. All other sports are subject to it. Almost all businesses are, of course. They can be sued for it…

  47. David M. Brown, MD Says:

  48. D_G Says:

Upon reading the letter sent to the NBA by the two U.S. senators from the state of Washington I was much relieved to note that it was written on recycled paper.

    Hurray for our leaders!!!!!

  49. D_G Says:

“And David could threaten them if he wanted to with the loss of televised NBA games.”

He could . . . but of course that would be a lose-lose sitaution with the NBA as the bigger losers.

The NBA does not want to make threats to the biggest sports media outlet in the world.

  50. Zonics Says:

I called Comcast and they had no infor relating to the Sonics game. They said for me to contact ESPN as they are the decision makers.

I suggest everyone do so as well asking why the change in broadcast scheduling? I demanded to know why and said I have been adversely impacted by this.

  62. Andrew13 Says:

Whoa. Isn’t this interesting? Bennet and crew are scrambling to lobby the OK legislature to pass through the tax incentive program he’s asking for. Here’s a quote from an OK state congressman:

“I know what they’re wanting,” said Rep. Paul Wesselhoft, R-Moore, who said he planned to return phone calls from Bennett and Tom Price Jr., senior vice president of corporate development for Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy, owned by Sonics ownership partner Aubrey McClendon.

“I want the Sonics here. I’m just not favorable to this sweetheart deal,” Wesselhoft said. “We’ve been blackmailed from the beginning on this.”

    Also….

“Rep. Charlie Joyner, R-Midwest City, who also voted against the bill, said he received an e-mail from Bennett that said the team might not come to Oklahoma City unless the House passes the tax incentive.”

    A few thoughts:

    1. The fact that Bennett needs to lobby OK for this deal shows that he is not necessarily going to be hailed as the hero we thought he would for moving the team.

    2. The fact that last minute lobbying efforts are needed could reflect the changing dynamic in the BOG. For example, Bennett might feel he needs a stronger case to take to the other owners that this is a financially viable move.

    3. Bennett has ethical issues (but we already knew that).

“Legal site claims Howard’s suit has no shot.”

That “legal site” has opinions worth exactly what you paid for them. Mr. Edelman shows no signs of knowing the details of the situation, the contracts involved, or even the central theories of the intended case. It appears that his primary qualification for offering his opinions on a case he knows nothing about is that he possesses a web site.

Don’t even think twice about the pundits’ views on Howard’s case. This case is HIGHLY fact specific, and no one outside of the key parties really knows the facts.

What we do know, however, is that Howard is well advised, and knows how to use quality counsel well. Something that we can say by observation is not necessarily the case for the OKies.

  66. Paul Says:

It looks like some people are getting the feeling of Clay Bennett now! It is about time for these Oklahoman to stand up! More headache for Clay Bennett!! Keep the ball rolling and continue to push Clay into a corner, where he can not escape from this mess! Clay needs to pay the crime and consequences.

Again, it is my hope that Howard Schultz will file the lawsuit tomorrow in order to give the message to BOG that he meant it! That way it will end the speculation of thinking this is a PR stunt.

Will some of you lend a rebuttal please.
also,if the owners vote for relocation what do you think will happen in the few days following the vote?
    thanks to you all.

  71. Paul Says:

I just thought of this idea. For these people who lives in Seattle area: I am suggesting you all to show up at Boeing field tonight to cheer these Sonics players and tell them that we are not giving up on them. I wish I could be there since I am in Yakima. However, I am not sure if it is the same place that the Sonics plane lands there? I remember back in 1996, when Utah whipped Sonics in 6th game and we, sonics fans, waited until about 3 am for Sonics plane to arrive. We cheered and told them we have game 7 to win! We won game 7 Western Conference. Again, it is a suggestion and if some of you guys are interested and make sure check where the Sonics plane lands tonight. I see nothing wrong doing that but it will send a chills to Sonics players. I can promise you on that.

  72. Andrew13 Says:

  74. Paul Says:

The Sonics are hot leading by 16 with 6 min left into halftime.

What do you think of my suggestion? Maybe it is out of reach? I don’t know but I thought it would be a good for the Sonics players to know that we are not giving up on them.

    That is total B.S.
Bennett has to abide by the rules and regulations/procedures of the NBA. He had to agree to that to become an owner.

  79. SacramentoSonic Says:

Im really happy that SacTown Royalty posted about us on their blog. Even though I grew up in Seattle and am a diehard Sonics fan its nice to know that the local people here care a little bit about what is going on. I am interested to see what will happen with their arena situation once it gets to the same situation we are in. Arco Arena is a terrible arena. It is ancient. The floors under the seats are all still made of wood, its like being in an old high school gym. I love Key Arena and don’t understand why it needs to be replaced.

I understand Oklahoma voting for OKC in that poll, but it’s baffling to me how 30% of the rest of the country thinks that’s okay.

Let’s see how they’d vote if it were their team.

  84. Paul Says:

Brian Robinson probably has better idea of when they come in tonight from Bay area. Or you could call the Boeing field to check out. But I am sure they probably will not confirm anything. Brian, would you know the answer to that? It could be different location.

  85. Silvervan83 Says:

someone find out when they are coming back. We need to rally at the airport and we need all the news we can get. If people wake up thursday morning and see 50-100 sonics fans at the airport congratulating the team at 1am that might get some people thinking. I might even wake up my kids for this one.

  86. glennpdx Says:

Some folks have tried to minimize the Schultz lawsuit, but I think guest at 7:52 is right. Howard would not dive into this if it were doomed at the start. He doesn’t have to win at trial (it won’t go that far), he just has to have enough of a case to keep it going, possibly even indefinitely (these things take years). He in effect will put an enormous lien on the franchise, making a claim on its ownership. That’s some kind of claim…

    Other wild possibilities:

As long as he has a lawsuit with a claim on ownership, he may be able to get a injunction to stop any imminent move to OKC. The suit is like a giant anchor dropped in Elliot Bay. The Sonics aren’t going anywhere as long as Schultz is trying to prove the Sonics are really his…

And let’s take it a little farther. Let’s say the situation drags on and on. Let’s say the Bennett regime continues to do everything it can to suppress fan interest in Seattle and take down the team as a competitive unit. Schultz could claim Bennett and company are intentionally devaluing the franchise and go to court to force them out of direct management pending resolution of the lawsuit. Crazy? Maybe. But remember you heard it here first…

May as well have fun thinking about it while we can…

  87. csbeer Says:

Munson at ESPN just about pushed me over the edge.
WTF? Do these lawyers/journalists actually DO any lawyering or any research. That was some of the most ill informed drivel I’ve heard. The Archie Bunker hand was itching..

Schutlz’s case hinges on questions of fact, fact that will most likely be determined by a judge or jury. It is the search for the answers to those questions that are the biggest hammer we have. As such, prior to open statements, a lawsuit is 90% about will. Who is a fighter? Who has the guts to go for it all? Who will refuse to back down?

I wager here in Seattle we are nuclear, i.e., we keep OUR team or we burn the whole f*!in house down.

  88. kdizzle Says:

I’m down for a Boeing Field welcome-home. Any details on when?

  89. Otto Says:

I’m going to take this opportunity to bring up a SC.com and Save Our Sonics draft day event. Do we have any venue ideas? we should all get together and celebrate the long battle.

I know we have used this place several times, But what about Ozzies again?

  90. Otto Says:

I’m playing around with the NBA Draft lottery calculator at ESPN, and its driving me crazy. We are landing 4th or worse, almost as much as we are landing in the top 2.

And one time Portland got the first pick, and selected Derrick Rose.

  91. MarkS Says:

“Munson over at ESPN suggests that the owners may be supportive of the move b/c Bennett and Co. could file an anti-trust suit claiming that the NBA is acting as an illegal cartel in attempting to restrict ownership rights.”

All the NBA BOG has to say is resolve the lease first.

  92. Vinny Says:

How long has the ATL Hawks ownership dispute gone on?
And is it even remotely similar to this one?
And how bad does it look when 2 out of only 30 teams do not even know who their real owner is?

  93. Otto Says:

“Legal site claims Howard’s suit has no shot.”

Thats because that legal site didn’t even address the side letter.

  94. Brian Says:

Wow…this really brings everything in perspective. We need to post this on a few message boards.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/fp/flashPollResultsState?sportIndex=frontpage&pollId=54534

  95. Mr. Baker Says:

    they haven’t even read it

  96. glennpdx Says:

The Hawks ownership feud went on for a couple of years, I think. But it was settled finally…

  97. D_G Says:

Currently Durant is shooting 11 for 15 and Green is shooting 7 for 8.

  98. Paul Says:

Brian Robinson or Steve Pyeatt has connection with Sonics PR or someone to find out more details about the arrival of Sonics plane. Also make sure it is allowable to enter Boeing field. I remember we had no problem in 1996 and since 9/11 event, I am not sure if the security is tighten up? That is why I wanted to make sure you check with Brian or Steve or Speed Cat or whoever has connection with Sonics better than me.

  99. glennpdx Says:

    Green is just crazy…

  100. Otto Says:

Wow..with 5 minutes to go…Durant has 26 points 7 rebounds and 5 assists, Jeff Green has 21 points.

Looks like we are going to have some fun numbers.

  101. Silvervan83 Says:

they had a rally last year after the green bay/seahawks game at boeing field. If we show up decked out in sonics gear i think they’ll get the idea

  102. tacodome Says:

What I don’t get is why Murray and Cantwell don’t lobby your state legislature and governor to call a special session and fund an arena. Why is it that your politicians can get very involved in saving the Sonics except when it comes to providing a positive solution to the whole problem?

I understand you guys are excited to see them doing anything at all on your behalf, but so far it’s all about making Bennett and Stern hurt. I haven’t seen the governor or anyone from your state legislator attempt to address the problem that caused Schultz to sell in the first place. The governor’s letter doesn’t even mention a forthcoming, fully-funded arena upgrade. The only conclusion the NBA owners can draw from that is that there is no forthcoming, fully-funded arena upgrade. What’s up with that?

  103. Brian Robinson Says:

I honestly don’t know about the flight. Big Lo is the guy who would know.

Often the last game guys just disberse to their hometowns. I am not sure if tonight is the night.

I have to get to my kids. You guys are all great!

  104. MXT Says:

    GO SONICS

another good game for Durant and Green! I know this is the beginning of a great duo and I really, really hope that they become a great duo as SEATTLE Supersonics.

  105. MXT Says:

Durant = Double-double! Way to go rook! Just imagine this kid NEXT season! Especially with some coaching from The Glove!

  106. Otto Says:

but so far it’s all about making Bennett and Stern hurt

Nothing wrong with making them feel a little heat.

  107. Kerry Says:

    Durant crashing the boards baby

  108. AK1984 Says:

Stephen Jackson and Baron Davis probably aren’t playing at a 100% clip tonight, so Kevin Durant and Jeff Green are most likely exploiting a rare set of circumstances.

  109. Otto Says:

Durant has a great chance to break his season high scoring mark, he only needs 5 more points.

  110. RRWRAYIII Says:

While I like Ozzie’s, I say we do somewhere else. For the game vs. Portland we had a ton of people packed in there. Last year at the Fisher Pavillion there were a ton of people. If we can find a large place to hold the event at, I bet we could get a few thousand people to show up. Hell, try and book the Fisher Pavillion before the Sonics can try to, if they even give a damn about the fans? If its possible, I bet KJR and some other companies may sponsor the event. Maybe call it:

“Seattle SuperSonics Draft Party Sponsored by Save Our Sonics, KJR, and Miller Genuine Draft”

  111. glennpdx Says:

tacodome, I share some of your concerns. However, one thing will never happen: U.S. Senators telling state legislators to hold a special session. That’s a violation of state’s rights and who knows how many laws… BUT there is a bit of a political front forming in front of the Sonics now. That is new. I think the emphasis for the short term has shifted to slowing the forward momentum. There seems to be some progress on that now. The solution, of course, is to pull Ballmer off the sidelines and get the arena deal firmed up (it was damn close already). I’m guessing that is last thing to happen, not the next one…

  112. Otto Says:

I bet we could get a few thousand people to show up.

man, gimmie what you are having! Love the optimisim!

  113. r3bb Says:

Looking at the box score, Durant is going crazy tonight! Green’s numbers look good too. I hope Durant breaks his season-high in scoring.

  114. Eric E Says:

Would you guys happen to have a list of all the NBA owners and especially a list of all their contacts? I am crafting a detailed letter right now that covers EVERY aspect of the Sonics situation and I would like to email it to each NBA owner. It is a respectful letter and full of information that I believe David Stern and Clay Bennett have been keeping from the other owners.

    Thanks guys!!

  115. AK1984 Says:

    Durant crashing the boards baby” {Kerry}

The Golden State Warriors are an undersized ballclub with Andris Biedrins and Al Harrington — who’s split playing time with Austin Croshere tonight — manning its frontline; plus, the team’s shooting percentage is below 40.0% thus far throughout the game, so there’s plenty of opportunity for Kevin Durant to pad his rebounding numbers.

  116. glennpdx Says:

    Now it’s the Watson show…

  117. Joshu@ Says:

“I’m going to take this opportunity to bring up a SC.com and Save Our Sonics draft day event. Do we have any venue ideas? we should all get together and celebrate the long battle. ”

Just get everything set so I have enough time to plan for it. I want to fly in and meet up with everybody. But my schedule is going to get busy during the later summer months, so I need to know the final plans as soon as possible.

Durant has tied his career high.

  120. j-justice Says:

REALLY sucks this game is not on tv. This one, dallas and the double OT with the nuggets have been awesome!

  121. SeattleFan91 Says:

Yeah Durant. Rejected by Durant. Durant ties career high.

  122. Jan M Says:

    durant is killing it..

  123. erik33 Says:

Durant is on fire!! Blocking shots. Can’t miss. Getting assits…

  124. Mr. Baker Says:

pressure from the government, media, city, Howard is providing a plausible exit for the NBA for when the city case starts marching from just having evidence of Bennett being a complete liar, to owners acting in concert, to a wider, and wider display of financial disclosure. They are heading toward monopoly talk, and any discovered information in the city’s case that points to that may get the league a date with the government in DC.
Howard gives them an escape when things go wrong in June. The league also has a good faith best effort requirement. You can read that online at King5.com, in the exhibits filed by the city.
That is where I see this going.

  125. Meaghan Says:

I got an email from Judi, the Sonics booster club president, that the team is meant to come in tonight at 1am. I don’t know if anything has changed in terms of their return flight, but that’s what I know as of Sunday….

I would love to go and welcome the team back, but I can’t unfortunately…it sounds like there will be other (non sc.com folks) also heading out there, so ya’ll won’t be alone!

  126. glennpdx Says:

Think the Blazers are regretting the Oden pick tonight??? hehe

  127. Sam K Says:

Durant and, to a lesser extent, Green are very fun to watch lately. Add Rose/Beasley/Mayo/Bayless/Lopez to the mix and I think you are looking at a young, exciting, semi-competitive team.

  128. r3bb Says:

Durant now has 40 pts. Career high!!!

  129. bigsmoothy Says:

Oh geez. It’s not fair. Durant is too good.

  130. Paul Says:

    K. Durant has 40 points!

  131. Eric E Says:

Thank you South Florida. You continue to amaze me lol.

  132. Otto Says:

Congrats KD, 40 points, 13 boards and 6 assists for your ROY.

  133. The South Florida Fan Says:

I don’t want to discourage anyone’s optimism, but there’s something I have to question about Schulz’s lawsuit:

Could it be that he’s just trying to save face? If he loses, he can at least regain respectability (and help Starbucks).

I don’t want that to be true, but the skeptic in me has to wonder. I’m sorry if I’m introducing a negative thought…as long as he holds things up, who cares.

  134. Jan M Says:

    durant with 42 points.

  135. Sam Says:

Sheesh! Durant is absolutely going bonkers out there…

  136. DJC Says:

I DONT WANT THIS TEAM TO LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Durant and Green, wow. What a game, I wish I could have watched it instead of being resorted to a game cast.

  137. dave Says:

Wow. Rookies end the season by combining for 69 pts, 8 assists, 23 rebounds….

Can’t wait for next season already :)

  138. glennpdx Says:

Yeah, they are going to love Durant out in the Dust Bowl. I’m sure his agent is happy about his client heading out there, too… (Yeah, over my dead body, too.)

  139. Vinny Says:

    RE: Schultz lawsuit.

According to my collection agency contact, if you threaten to sue someone and then you do not go through with it then they can turn around and sue you for harassment.

So according to her if Howard does not go through with the lawsuit then Clay could possibly sue Howard for harassment.

  140. glennpdx Says:

Howard is going to sue Clay until it hurts. He’s pissed off and embarrassed. Perfect motivation to go to court…

  141. Jay Says:

didnt watch the game, just saw the box score..k.d went off tonite..42 and 13 boards..its gonna be great to see him develop into a superstar in seattle!

  142. Andrew13 Says:

    SouthFlorida,

It’s a fair point that many have brought up. But let’s assume for the moment that saving face is his only motive. Long-term, how much face does he save by taking this to trial and losing? At that point, not only will he be viewed as the guy who let the Sonics down, but he will be viewed as somebody that was hopelessly naive in selling the team. The question then becomes is it better to be seen as hopelessly naive/stupid, or complicit in a business deal that generated a huge profit. From a business perspective, I have to think the latter looks better even if it doesn’t to the common fan.

If that’s true, there is no way he would be bringing this lawsuit unless he thought he could win, or thinks Clay will give up.

    My two cents anyways.

  143. Sam K Says:

Can KD sue Bennett for distracting the nation from what a stone cold pimp he is?

  144. SeattleFan91 Says:

DJS425 on The ESPN Sonics Board wrote a letter to Schultz attorney…

I think the Sonics history might lie on you. We sonics fans have a lot of faith in you and thankyou for what your doing for seattle on behalf of Mr schultz. Do you really think this has a good chance to have a favorable ending? Again thankyou!

This is not a plot about winning at trial. It’s about leverage, which is what most lawsuits are about. They don’t go to trial. They are settled. Just like this one…

  146. SacramentoSonic Says:

What a performance tonight from the rookies. I am pissed it wasn’t on tv. Oh well. what a way to go out! SOS

  147. AK1984 Says:

Okay, I wholeheartedly believe that Kevin Durant should win the 2007-2008 NBA Rookie of the Year Award. Although Al Horford is a nice player — especially since he played a pivotal role in the Atlanta Hawks making the playoffs this season — his overall impact didn’t reach the same level as Durant.

Nonetheless, Durant is extraordinarily lucky to have played alongside an absolutely atrocious rookie class this season. The individuals who vote on behalf of this honor seem to focus heavily on offensive production, too, which enormously helps out Durant due to his indisputably hideous defense.

  148. Paul Says:

I am really pissed off about tonight because the game could have been on ESPN! I did not have any chance to watch the game on TV! David Stern needs to be out of NBA soon!

  149. The South Florida Fan Says:

I just updated our site to show all the support:

    http://thesouthfloridafan.blogspot.com/2008/04/save-sonics-virus-spreads-with.html

I think it would be good to have all these blogs showing the same thing. The best way to create a bigger story is to show how it’s spreading. Maybe we can all contact those links one by one and ask for more. Just a thought.

  150. David M. Brown, MD Says:

Kevin Durant and Jeff Green have certainly given us a glimpse of our future and what we’re fighting for. They’ve done it again by both having monster games on the same night. Kevin’s best game of the season with 42 points, 13 boards, and 6 assists, and Jeff Green’s second best game of the season with 27 points, 10 boards, 2 assists. That’s a total of 69 points (second only to their 72 points in the double overtime victory over Denver), 23 rebounds, and 8 assists. Wow! When have you seen 2 rookies on the same team have a game like that? I mean besides the Denver game?

  151. Joshu@ Says:

Never, and that is the point. This may not have the same technical style of Jordan/Pippen(seeing as how Jordan was a true 2 and Pippen was a point/forward from the 3) but they will have no doubt the same effect. Now the question is…who is a better fit and why for this team? Rose or Beasley? I personally like Rose, but that is definately the question.

  152. David M. Brown, MD Says:

I love Derrick Rose and his athleticism and speed. We need an outstanding point guard more than another big man who’s not big enough to play center. Beasley the “Beast” would give us one more 6′9″ guy who can score and rebound, but other than being a bit more athletic (maybe more than a bit), does he offer substantial benefit over Nick Collison or Chris Wilcox? I don’t think so. Some will disagree. But does Derrick Rose offer a whole other dimension beyond what Earl Watson brings to the table? I think everyone can agree on that. Earl improved a lot this year, but we still need a phenomenal point guard to substantially improve. The point is pretty much the key to the whole thing.
