NBA Play-offs and NFL draft thread
Posted on Saturday, April 26th, 2008 at 1:07 pm by Big Chris
Who says we never talk sports? Get your chat on here for anything related to this weekend’s NBA play-offs or today’s NFL draft. I’m only interested in today’s NFL draft, because while day 2 drafting is important, it’s 95% guys I’ve never heard of and know absolutely ZERO about. Jacksonville reached on that #8 pick, I hope they don’t regret it. And does anyone think Ocho-Cinco will still be a Bungle come Monday?
On the NBA front, the Sixers are making the Pistons sweat. I think that is good for the East, as it brings interest to an otherwise less than interesting series (on the surface). Orlando and Toronto has been interesting with Dwight Howard playing like a man among boys. And ding dong the Suns are dead. Time to put Clanq back on the shelf. And while I hate to bring it up, props to Kobe, the Lakers are looking like the team to beat in the West.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
That sucks Carolina was smart enough to draft J. Stewart at 13.
I was hoping he might slip to the Seahawks.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
Do Hawks take an OT to offset Long to Rams, and to occasionally spell Walt? I hope so now. Was originally hoping that J Stewart would slip to us, then we take him as BPA. Oh well.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:44 pm
I hope the Hawks go D-line or O-line. What do people think of Felix Jones?
April 26th, 2008 at 1:48 pm
Felix would breat, IMO.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Seahawks can use another RB. Felix Jones seems like a smart player. I also hoped J. Stewart would be picked up by the Seahawks.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:57 pm
Yeah, I was bummed Stewart went so high. I thought the Hawks had a good chance of snagging him at 25. Damn. He’s gonna be a monster RB. I’m thinking if Felix Jones is off the board when they pick, they’ll go after the TE from Purdue. Who knows. They could put a scare into Baltimore at 26. The Ravens want Flacco, so Ruskell could place a call and tell Balt. they’re picking the Delaware QB, prompting the Ravens to give us a third or fourth-rounder for swapping spots in the first round.
This isn’t as compelling as the NBA draft will be, but I still enjoy watching which players get selected, and which deals get made.
GO HAWKS!!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 2:05 pm
How about Mendenhall? He seems to be sliping. If he get’s past Dallas he might be there when the Seahawks pick. I just don’t know anything about the guy other than Kiper loves him.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:06 pm
Well, so much for Seattle doing a deal with Balt. The Texans just traded their pick, so the Ravens could snag Flacco. It’ll be interesting to see what Baltimore had to give up, to move up 8 spots. Possibly a low-second rounder.
I’m still hoping for Felix Jones at 25, although Dallas might grab him before then. Mendenhall is still on the board too.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
Mendenhall is a really good back, plus he doesn’t have much wear-n-tear, which is always a concern when you look for career longevity. I’d be EXTREMELY happy if he or Jones falls to the Hawks.
I think they could still get a good TE in the second round.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:09 pm
How about Brian Brohm of Louisville Cardinals? Seahawks can use a TE or two to replace Marcus Pollard that signed on with the Patriots.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:11 pm
It would be a surprise if Jones goes to the Seahawks. Eagles just traded their first round pick to the Panthers.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:13 pm
Damn, the Panthers are killing me. First they take Stewart, then they trade up to get the Otah.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Mendenhall is a top pick thats still available on the draft board.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
That’s one thing that sort of bothers me about Ruskell on draft day. He seems a little gun-shy to pull the trigger and make deals. I think he’s content to sit at 25, rather than try to move up. This is where it gets interesting. We’re only a couple picks away. We still have a shot at a great back. Or if it’s Keller, he’s an incredibly athletic TE with great size.
COME ON HAWKS!!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 2:18 pm
Eagles made a good move trading w/ the Panthers. Devin Thomas and Desean Jackson are two WRs on the draft board.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
HOLY CRAP… the Panthers gave up a TON to get Otah. I think they surrendered a second-rounder and next year’s first rounder. YIKES!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
I do not want to burn a first round pick on a TE. That is just stupid.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:23 pm
Looks like either Jones or Mendenhall will be on the board when the Hawks pick. I bet Dallas takes one of them and Seattle has a shot at the other. Do we take it?
April 26th, 2008 at 2:24 pm
Sonice,
I agree that typically you don’t take a TE in the first, but Keller is definitely worthy of being picked late in the first round. He’s a stud, and would fit in perfect in the West Coast Offense.
My bet is that Dallas will take Felix Jones, so it could come down to the Hawks having to choose between Keller and Mendenhall.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:25 pm
However if DeSean Jackson from Cal is still on the board, you just can’t pass on him.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
I would rather have Balmer from UNC than Keller.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
How about Quentin Groves? Redskins trade pick to Falcons.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
im watching the Orlando Magic/Toronto Raptors game, GO ORLANDO!!! Rashard Lewis just hit a big shot and Orlando is up by 8 with 1:31 to go…
April 26th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
Sam Baker would have been good to be on the same team as Lofa Tatupu.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:31 pm
I’d love to have Mendenhall but I don’t see him slipping past Pittsburgh.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:34 pm
Mendenhall sounds like he’s going to Dallas.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:39 pm
Felix Jones goes to Dallas. Mendenhall might go to PIT.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:40 pm
Damn, I knew the Cowboys were gonna take Jones. Mendenhall may be gone at 25 too.
The Hawks could go receiver or TE. Ballmer would be a great pick too.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:44 pm
If we don’t trade down I see us going with either mendenhall or trevor laws.. I really dont see us picking a TE with our first and Ballmer wouldn’t be a good fit.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
Crap, Mendenhall is gone.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
well we know it wont be mendenhall..
April 26th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
Saw that one coming…
April 26th, 2008 at 2:51 pm
Merling, Phillips, or Laws…
April 26th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Yea, Seahawks are on the clock. What could Ruskell be thinking about drafting?
April 26th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
How about Malcolm Kelly? He would be a nice big target for Hasselbeck.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Hmm, probably a WR to repalce DJ Hackett.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
DEVIN THOMAS ! COME ON!
April 26th, 2008 at 2:56 pm
3 RB’s in a row. No WR’s taken yet. Could Ruskell be thinking grabbing a target for Matt to throw to? Although Ruskell loves picking defensive guys. My money is on Merling out of Clemson. If he goes offense it’s Keller or Thomas.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
Desean Jackson perhaps.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Limas Sweed is also a good potential pick.
April 26th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
Seahawks traded their first round pick to Dallas?
April 26th, 2008 at 3:00 pm
We trade our pick to Dallas for #28. Interesting.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
Rashard played a great game today
April 26th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
what the f@@@!!!!
April 26th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
What else did we get?
April 26th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
a 5th and a 7th rounder
April 26th, 2008 at 3:06 pm
Lets hope we get a good deal out of the trade with Dallas.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:07 pm
I’m guessing the player Ruskell wanted at 25 was off the board, so he figured he’d pick up a draft pick from the Cowboys and slide down to 28. I wonder what Dallas is giving to us to move up three spots.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
i would be looking at desean jackson as well.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
We didn’t have a fifth round pick this year, so that’s not a bad deal just to move down three spots.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
i bet its a 5th or 6th rounder
April 26th, 2008 at 3:09 pm
I’ll take an extra lineman in the fifth round please.

April 26th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
they are eating Shaw’s cap number this year, picking up that other pick is a good idea to pickup a body they do not have to find in free agency.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
why does jacksonville have our 5th round pick???
April 26th, 2008 at 3:16 pm
Phillipp Merling or Devin Thomas?
April 26th, 2008 at 3:17 pm
Lawrence Jackson goes to the Seahawks.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:19 pm
WTF???? Merling was there and Ruskell passed for this kid? I’m scratchin’ my head here.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Why didn’t the Seahawks get Kentwan Balmer?
April 26th, 2008 at 3:21 pm
I’m surprised Ruskell passed on Phillipp Merling and Devin Thomas.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:22 pm
Sounds like picking him at 28 was a bit of a stretch. Most people had Jackson rated as second-round pick. Does Ruskell know something we don’t (remember Lofa?)
April 26th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Jets get Packers last first round pick. Hmm, maybe Merling or Devin Thomas would fit their team well.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:25 pm
Lofa was a pleasant surprise when the Seahawks drafted him. Ruskell is probably thinking about how much of an impact Lofa has made.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:30 pm
Seahawks could have gotten Dustin Keller.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:31 pm
I don’t like Keller at all. He wouldn’t help the o-line at all. I would rather just run a 3 wide set than use Keller.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:41 pm
Phillipp Merling or Devin Thomas might have made a contribution.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
Devin Thomas finally got picked by the Chiefs.
April 26th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Opps, I mean the Redskins
April 26th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
Seahawks get 38th pick from Ravens.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:00 pm
John Carlson TE goes to the Seahawks.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
Nice pick. I like Carlson.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
Very good pick. Unlike Keller, this guy can block. He struggled last year, most likely due to ND’s anemic offense. But I think he’ll be a very good pro. Should compete for a starting job in camp.
April 26th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Lakers up by 11 in the 3rd
April 26th, 2008 at 4:48 pm
So the Hawks lost pick 55 (which goes to Balt.) and they also gave up their 3rd round pick. A pretty hefty price, but they needed a TE desperately, and found their guy.
Here’s something to think about. If Carlson was the TE they really coveted, couldn’t they have selected him at 28, and gambled that Jackson would’ve been there at 55? Hindsight is 20/20, but it seems like Ruskell picked Jackson alot higher than he was projected to go.
April 26th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
I’m going to keep the faith with Ruskell. His Tatupu pick turned out to be gold……and at the time it seemed like they drafted him high too.
April 26th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Does Ruskell know something we don’t (remember Lofa?)
Russkel and Holmgren said they look more at production (lofa), then they do at measurables.
Here’s something to think about. If Carlson was the TE they really coveted, couldn’t they have selected him at 28, and gambled that Jackson would’ve been there at 55
Its obvious they had Jackson rated higher, and that he would not have been there at 55.
April 26th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
FYI, Rob Rang of NFL SCOUT draft services thought the hawks would go after Jackson at #25.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:14 pm
And while I hate to bring it up, props to Kobe, the Lakers are looking like the team to beat in the West.
Props to the Lakers. They are legit with Gasol. However, defenseless Denver is not the best indicator of their superiority level. The Spurs have the total package on offense and defense and are still the team to beat.
April 26th, 2008 at 7:19 pm
… in the west that is. In a Spurs-Celtics finals, it looks like a dead heat.
April 26th, 2008 at 8:13 pm
I don’t know much about the DE for SC……but I usually assume that if you are good enough to play at SC…..your probably pretty good.
I agree with Dick. As good as the Lakers look….the road still goes through SA. Denver is garbage. I’m a big Iverson and Melo fan……and I’ll be the first to admit that they are horrible.
Nice game from Rashard today.
Everytime I watch Josh Smith play……I think of how we passed on him for Swift. Sickening.
April 26th, 2008 at 9:22 pm
Same with Ronnie Brewer!
April 26th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
I know there was no way the Nuggets would beat the Lakers, but I can’t help wondering if Stern placed an order with the refs for a sweep–what with Karl wearing that Space Needle Tie at the end of the season.
April 26th, 2008 at 10:19 pm
But Menace, Robert Swift ownz Josh Smith because he’s a 7 footer………….
(a 7 footer who cant move and is prissy, not gritty.)
April 26th, 2008 at 10:31 pm
Camello including coaching in his claims of the team quitting. I’ve never liked that guy.
April 27th, 2008 at 3:29 am
let’s go jaguaarssss!
April 27th, 2008 at 10:38 am
Denver quit playing defense months/years ago.
April 27th, 2008 at 10:41 am
Is it the fact that it comes from Carmelo? Ray used to call out some of his teammates……..but that was considered “leadership”. Whats the difference?
April 27th, 2008 at 1:11 pm
anyone watch the cavs/wizards game today? Delonte West hit a 3 with 5 seconds left to take a 3 point lead and eventually win the game
April 27th, 2008 at 3:14 pm
Menace, it’s the calling out of the coaching staff that didn’t sit right with me, but that’s not the only reason why I dislike him. I actually liked him alot during his championship year in college. But ever since he joined the pros, there’s been a series of things here and there that have made me like him less & less and dislike him more & more. The sucker punch last season cinched it for me.
April 27th, 2008 at 4:45 pm
Holy shit…. the Seahawks drafted a LONG Snapper.
April 27th, 2008 at 9:13 pm
George Karl didn’t have a problem with it. Frustration happens. I take it your not a Kermit Washington fan?
April 27th, 2008 at 11:10 pm
21 points 5 assists and 3 steals for Delonte West.
Good for Delonte!
April 28th, 2008 at 10:54 am
liked the Jackson pick … not a fan of Carlson at all.
