Celtics Win NBA Title!

Posted on Tuesday, June 17th, 2008 at 8:54 pm by Big Chris

Congrats to Ray Allen, KG, Paul Pierce and crew. A complete dismantling of the Lakers tonight. Ray Allen was on fire, which was nice to see after a tough day yesterday for his family. I thought the Lakers would win this in 6 games. I also thought the Lakers knew how to score. Clearly I was wrong, or I underestimated the Celtics ability to disrupt Black Mamba and crew.

I’ll be in the Boston area for 6 days starting this Friday. It’s going to be NUTS!

I bet Allen feels amazing. Coming from a horrible Sonics team to winning the Finals.

  7. tesh Says:

David Stern booed by Celtics fans!!! Just awesome!

  8. SacramentoSonic Says:

OH I JUST LOVE HOW DAVID STERN WAS BOOED EVERYTIME HE WAS ANNOUNCED! MUAHAHAHAHA. WHAT A FAG! SUCK IT STERN! SUCK IT LONG AND SUCK IT HARD!!!

Stern is the most hated man in the world.
Osama just called want’s his title back

  10. Mos Says:

“Stu? Are they saying Stu?” No, David, they’re booing you.

  11. SeattleFan91 Says:

    Stern is a POS.

  12. Mantra Says:

Before the Finals started, pretty much everybody on this blog and every expert predicted the Lakers to take this series. Some even said in 4 games.

I’m glad Ray and co proved everyone wrong.

Hopefully people will shut up about Kobe too. 7-22 shooting in a do-or-die game? LOL!

  13. ZenDoc Says:

It’s great to see Ray playing so well. He was on fire - like the Ray of old. He either tied or broke the record for 3-pointers in a Finals game with 7 tonight and broke the record for most 3-pointers in the Finals series with 20 I think, and he ended up with 22 or 23! The Celtics have completely dismantled the Lakers. Cool. :-) A 40 point lead with a minute to go! Wow!

What amazing team defense they played! They had so many steals tonight, it’s unreal. The Lakers looked like they didn’t belong, but the Celtics really came together quickly to be a very, very good team with the total emphasis on being a team, with no ego-freaks. Just Incredible.

Give it up for Loren Palmer and this great collection of what is currently 172 pictures.

happy for the Celtics, they played hard

  16. JamminJ Says:

hate the red sox, despise the patriots…

but nothing rfor love for the celts.

great to see the likes of ray and KG along with pierce make it.

I never faulted ray for not making it more to the playoffs in seattle… I blame management for not putting enough around him. Look at kobe, best single player in the game… so what. need support. Ray needed that support here, never got it. glad he finally made after his poor teams in the past.

    Awesome job RAY.

  18. AkDan Says:

Has anyone else noticed that since the referee cheating allegations free throw attempts have been equal (+/-1) for each team during the last three game?

  19. Eric E Says:

    DAVID STERN HAS ZERO CREDIBILITY!!!!!!

At least Bennett and OKC like him…

  20. Eric E Says:

I asked this before. Does Ray being a big piece of Boston’s title help our case against Bennett at all? If not IN the courtroom then at least in the court of public opinion?

  21. SeattleFan91 Says:

    Slightly off topic,

My friend told me that Gary Payton said on the Best Damn Sports Show that he would give up his championship ring, if the Sonics could stay in Seattle. He even did a lie detector test.

  22. dmason24 Says:

What a pansy Stern is. He convinced himself that the fans were chanting “Truuuuth” when he got the mic because he was going to give out the MVP trophy. No, David, they started booing as soon as you got the mic. He either lives in his own world or he tried to make the scene look better then it really was. Or, maybe both are true.

I’m glad for Doc, Ray, KG, and Peirce.

  23. will Says:

    love seeing stern get booed

i loved the “nah nah nah nah hey hey hey goodbye” chant. it was pretty loud too.

kobe is a punk. no shaq…no title

  24. epx Says:

As a lifelong Sonics fan, one thing that feels really good is seeing the Lakers get beat/humbled. Ray Allen helping out in that doesn’t feel too bad either. I respect Kobe as an individual player, but I respect Boston as a TEAM, and I respect the “big 3″ for their humility, hard work, and their ability to fight through adversity to get the job done. Their role players really stepped up as well, which is also nice to see…

  25. Eric E Says:

    dmason. did stern say that????

  26. luvmysupes Says:

Love this thread! I already shared my love for Raaaaaaaaaay Allen on the other one but he really lit it up tonight!! What I like the most about PP, KG, and the rest of the Celtics is that they play unselfish basketball and are willing to share the ball and just get the job done!! Amazing D! And Doc Rivers seems like a class act. Ray Ray…I was so sad when you had to leave Seattle but I am so thrilled you got your ring!! : )
And then to top if off and hear the boos for David Stern. YES!!

  27. TukwilaSonic Says:

What a strange season. My Sonics in the tank and purposely so by the out of town owners who are possesed to take them away. But Ray Allen gets traded to basketball heaven and we get to watch them dominate the old Sonic nemisis LA Lakers.

    Great job Ray Allen!!!

He’s hearing signals from other planets…

  28. karazekevin Says:

The Sonics practically gave ray allen to the celtics for free so I think NBA championship rings are in line for Sam Presti and Clay Bennett as well

  29. Eric E Says:

I’m watching the top 10 Mariners plays in their history. I knock the Ms more than anyone but Edgar’s double and Griffey flying around 3rd STILL gives me goosebumps. literally.

  30. Menace Says:

As a Kobe hater it sadly puts a smile to my face to see him get back to the finals without Shaq and then lose. Thats justice in my eyes for the way he dismantled their championship run years ago.

Big props to Ray Allen. He’s always been a class act and deserves a ring as much as anyone.

I would have put my money on LA before the series started. But Boston really did work. The comebacks…..the defense. They picked LAs d apart. Kudos.

  31. Ty Says:

luvmysupes, I share your feelings completely. I absolutely love Ray as a player and was crushed when we traded him. I’d say that he easily ranks right next to Gary and Shawn at the top of my alltime favorite Sonics list.

I feel so good for Ray right now, almost exactly the same I felt 2 years ago when GP won in Miami. It’s just great to see a hardworking, good guy like Ray finally on a team good enough to compete for and win a title.

  32. Ty Says:

Speedcat- thanks for posting that link with all those pics from the rally. I found a couple with my friend, my brother, and myself in them. pretty cool

  33. dmason24 Says:

I love the “Hey Clay, here’s your sweet flip” poster.

  34. bballdeluxe Says:

while i have to give boston credit they did a great job of putting the team together,(by the way do you think the boy wonder presti asked for rondo)i just cant stand them as players a bunch of whiners, other then kg.

  35. phenom Says:

The media said Presti asked for Rondo instead of West, but was unwilling to include Swift within the discussion…strike one.

GP, Allen, (Pippen) and Brent Barry are Sonics who moved on to win titles with other teams, any more?

  36. dmason24 Says:

    dmason. did stern say that????

Yes. When he gets the mic, people start booing and he has this stupid grin on his face as if he thinks they are chanting “Truuuuth”. Then you can here him say, not very loudly, in agreement, “Truth”. It’s just another example of how full of S**t this guy is.

I don’t think there’s city in this country, other than OKC, that likes this guy.

  37. Eric E Says:

That’s because OKC is the only city run by characters as shady as him.

  38. Menace Says:

“The media said Presti asked for Rondo instead of West, but was unwilling to include Swift within the discussion…strike one.”

    Show me where?

Considering Rondo wasn’t any good at all last year. West and his expiring contract was a better deal at the time. Rondo has improved. But put him on a team without Ray Allen, KG, and Pierce and he doesn’t the same player IMO. The guy still can’t shoot.

  39. Menace Says:

“GP, Allen, (Pippen) and Brent Barry are Sonics who moved on to win titles with other teams, any more?”

    Dennis Johnson

  40. GP are you wit'me? Says:

I’m so glad KG got his. This is llooonnnggg adue.
Same goes for Ray Allen and Pierce.

Paul Pierce deserves every ounce of that Finals MVP trophy. I can’t believe he come back from that knee injury. UNREAL.

oh yeah phuck David Stern. I was so happy other fans recognize.
    STEP DOWN STERN.

Rotoworld states last June 28 at 3:59 pm, “ESPN is reporting that a deal that would send Ray Allen to the Celtics for the No. 5 pick, Wally Szczerbiak and Delonte West is close to becoming a reality.
Stay tuned on this one. Allen definitely gives Paul Pierce some much needed help, but it’s hard to say how many years Allen has left. There were earlier rumors that the Sonics wanted Rajon Rondo, causing the Celtics to demand Robert Swift, but as of now, it sounds like the deal may be ready to happen as mentioned above. Moving Szczerbiak and West would help clear up the logjam at shooting guard in Boston, where Allen would immediately step in.”

Even the lowly Oregonian is having fun at this loser’s expense. My favorite so far:

“If I have to keep this team in Seattle I swear to God, it will be Clay Bennett Bobble Head Night all season long.”

  44. D_G Says:

“‘GP, Allen, (Pippen) and Brent Barry are Sonics who moved on to win titles with other teams, any more?’

    Dennis Johnson”

How ’bout Horace Grant’s ring with the Lakers after leaving the Sonics.

Of course, none of these players were the best player on the team that the moved to, but Payton and Allen were expected to carry the Sonics.

  45. D_G Says:

Did Kevin McHale get his championship ring last night, or will they be conducting a special ceremony for that next year?

  46. D_G Says:

Didn’t watch the game last night. I assume that there was no mention of events in Seattle last night. Not during the pre-game show, not during the half-time show, not during the post-game show nor during the ‘fill-time’ when the outcome of the game was decided in the fourth quarter, all drama was gone and the announcers had one-half hour of air time to fill with not much to talk about.

Let me know if I am wrong in this assumption.

  47. D_G Says:

Avery Johnson wins a ring with San Antonio ten years after leaving the Sonics.

  48. D_G Says:

BTW I wouldn’t read too much into the Celtics fans booing Stern. In Boston when a person boos, it can be roughly translated to mean:

‘[you are such] a deep and compassionate thinker, and a person with a rare and unique charisma that brings out the best in everyone you touch. You are just one of my favorite people on earth and I so cherish [you].’

So you see the fans in Boston were merely expressing their appreciation.

  49. D_G Says:

Did y’all see the Sports Illustrated interview with David Stern late last night.

SI Reporter: Do you have a response to the fans who booed you during the award presentation.

Stern: The fans have the right to express their opinion, and the NBA supports that right. The fans should know that the NBA is a league based on the principles of integrity and decency. But integrity and decency is a two-way street and we have high expectations for our fans. So, yes, yes I am disappointed to see the fans in Boston acting without integrity or decency. Of course, the NBA cares, and we have a responsibility to our communities, our fans around the country and the world, and especially the children who watch this game to promote the best behavior and the best ideals. So, I think it’s safe to say that the NBA will no longer be brokering sweetheart trade deals for this franchise for some time to come. And it might be a good idea for this organization to develop a deep bench, because I forsee their star players frequently finding themselves in foul trouble late in the game. No longer will this group be on the list of team’s that we distribute to the ref’s at the beginning of the season [Stern wink's at the reporter]. Perhaps in about eight years we will revisit these issues with the Kansas City Celtics. I predict the fans will be much more appreciative.

  50. Rachel Says:

“‘GP, Allen, (Pippen) and Brent Barry are Sonics who moved on to win titles with other teams, any more?’

How ’bout Horace Grant’s ring with the Lakers after leaving the Sonics.

…I’m guessing Jelani McCoy doesn’t really count.

  51. grumpyd Says:

D_G, Haha. Could be his inner thought process.

on a different topic: Vinnie Johnson won a ring as the 6th man for Pistons.

  52. Menace Says:

Not sure if rotoworld is a reliable source. Nonetheless its interesting reading.

Its easy to say that we should have got Rondo now that we know Swift’s season was lost and Delonte played poorly for us………isn’t it? Historically Delonte was much better than Rondo……..and his contract was expiring. Can’t put that on the GM. He doesn’t have a time machine.
