Whom should we vote for (or not vote for)? Any thoughts from our SOS leaders?

  2. Joshua Says:

After reading Dick Tate’s post about Ballmer and Nickels, I am at the point where I think that there is no solution at this point. If it is true that Ballmer nixed the Bellevue site(which would have been fine, Seattle civics for Downtown Seattle are far worse than the Belleveue could have been), and if it is true to some extent that he was working with Nickels…then no once really cares about us or the Sonics. In the end they are all as accountable as the PBC…they are all in the same boat.

They are all at least in some light starting to look like villains. Sad deal, no one cares about us. Write in somebody for the primaries..

  3. K-man Says:

Here’s a list to start with:

    Vote against:

    Statewide:

Gregoire - Did squat to get anything done

    If your district:

Frank Chopp (State Rep- Seattle)- Our biggest obstacle

Ross Hunter (State Rep- Mercer Island.. I think) - Chopp’s side kick

Roger Goodman (State Rep.- Eastside, 45th district)- One of my reps, very outspoken against Ballmer’s plan

Also, there was a state rep. from Annacortes who was very outspoken against Ballmers plan, can’t remember his name though. I just remember I kept thinking “why should someone from Annacortes have any say in how King County spend it’s tax revenue…”

    Vote for:

Sam Donaldson - (in 2009) Seattle City Council

I’m sure I’m missing many on both sides of the equation- feel free to add to my list.

Or, When it comes to our State legislature… When in doubt, vote them out.

  4. t Says:

No one on here should tell anyone how to vote or who to vote for. BUT Gregoire had a a huge chance to do something and did nothing. Rossi says he will do something but he might be just saying that to get our votes. Fact is you cant trust anyone and you cant believe anyone so make your own choice. That being said Rossi in ‘08! :)

  5. MarkS Says:

Balmer nixed the Bellevue site? No Bubba Bennett did. They could have built a Bellevue arena for less than the Renton one for one reason. Because of existing parking in Bellevue they did not need as big a parking garage as they did in the Renton location.

(The following document is evidance Bennett provided in the lease trial)

    http://downloads.newsok.com/documents/Fordcenter.pdf

Slight problem though. Such would have meant less profit for Bennett and the boys.

Shawn Kemp has signed with Premiata Montegranaro, my new favorite team:

  7. charliesonic Says:

at last, perception dawns: none of the principals — NOBODY — ‘cares about us.’

what they care about is themselves, and their money. still, it will probably wind up w/ballmer owning a team called the seattle supersonics, and playing in a new(ish) arena, somewhere in the great northwest.

when? i say less time than it took dc to ‘replace’ the senators, more than it took cleveland to land it’s guarantee of a new browns franchise (essentially zero, since the move away was formally ok’d along with the promise of a replacement which started when the new stadium was built.

i’ll put the interregnum at 2-5 years.

Okay, one more time boys and girls for those of you who don’t get it. If the Sonics return in some form it will not be because of some grass roots effort. You see how much our rally in front of the courthouse made a difference. It will be because the movers and shakers in the region want to make it so. I keep telling you B-Ball was DOA in Charlotte and then along came Robert Johnson with the chance for the city to renounce its racist past once and for all and so now they have a franchise they never even asked for. Government will do what Ballmer & Co. want because in the end it’s not about the public good but about $$$$ and nothing more. That’s the facts Jack.

Either Rossi or Gregoire will get with the program. Not a dime’s worth of difference between ‘em. Just as in national politics, local politics is a sideshow to keep us amused so we don’t pay attention to what’s really going on. However, next year I hope some true contenders come out of the woodwork to challenge the Mayor and any city council members up for reelection. Those green Nazis are so out of touch they should form their own commune instead of trying to take over a whole city like the Bagwhan did in Antelope, OR in 1983.

  10. Mr. Baker Says:

wherearemyrings, I made the same points when I posted my story that Step #1 was the Arena. We are bound by the buyer of the new franchise, and his 150 million toward Key Arena, and the city’s insistance that they are the one providing an arena in Seattle.
I was met with the “we nees to do it the right way”, and “we want hockey”. All great asparations, but, and unless, “we” are named Steve Ballmer or Greg Nickels then we are not “we”. We are left wanting, hoping, and logical appeals lead us away from what those with the capial want, that is not always the same thing as what we want.
It is often the case that I am not expressing what I want, but what is likely to happen within the grasp of what I hope, as determined by the desires of others.
Steve Ballmer sat courtside a lot, he will do that again because he can. Do I want a 2 year battle to keep the old team here or not? Does not matter what I think, I am not the one buying a franchise and paying 150 million dollars in upgrades to a building I do not own.
The 2-5 year window expressed above would not have started until Bennett left with the only franchise he had. It looks like Ballmer just wanted to start that clock now, instead of 2 years from now.
I do not have to like any of it, but it is what it looks like to me.

As a city citizen, 50 dark nights is bad, any way you slice it, for a public asset, and the business that are alive around such activity. I am glad somebody wants to share in that effort.
That’s all I can consider at this point.

A bus load of Canadians is not showing up on a dark, cold, rainy, winter’s night wearing Nash jersey’s right now, and none of us are the better for it.

  11. TB Says:

all i have to say is to please remember when voting that there are bigger issues than KeyArena and voting entirely on one subject is extremely shortsighted.

  12. Sharman B Says:

For several days now I’ve read some of the comments from those of you who rallied for our Team, called the media, wrote letters, etc. … I’m glad there are folks out there who do still care! I find that I’m still so angry at just about everyone in politics and business that it is hard to focus on sports, period (althou I am looking forward to the UW-Ore game).

Because I live in thurston co. I can’t vote against the “chopper” but I did vote against our Governor and my local reps who could not seem to craft an original response back to me concerning the Arena, Seattle Center or the Teams. I think the Governor blew it and missed an opportunity when the Ballmer group first formed. I also think she could have gone to Oklahoma to try and “make friends” with Clay after he was rather rudely treated by the Olympia legislators. Communicating with kindness might, just might, have made a difference way back in this sordid mess.

I am waiting for Rossi to say something about Seattle Center’s future, a New multi-purpose arena, the Ballmer Group or NBA basketball! He put it in his early messages, but I haven’t heard much since then. Are any of you active in his campaign, or actually know him? Did he go to any Games?? Is there any hope he can really do something?? What’s he like?

Anyway, today I packed up all my Sonics momentos. The pictures of Luke with curly hair, “Live at the HardWood” items, Collison’s bobble head doll, Nate when he was young, those really cheap Gary Payton stacking dolls, my signed Rashard photo, etc. Don’t know where to put the stuff, but it brings me down to look at it. I’m keeping the signs, etc. in hopes one day before I’m 80 we’ll have a Sonics team again. I still have SONICS6 on my license plate, so honk if you see me on I-5.
    Sharman

  13. RRWRAYIII Says:

Since the primary is to get the top two vote getters, I am going to make a joke out of the governors race and write in Nick Collison. He was the last true Sonics player we had, therefore he gets my vote. Rossi and Gregoire will dominate the votes this round anyways.

  14. Patrick Says:

Thats the same thing I’m doing too RR both Gossi and Gregoire are not a solution in solving the Sonics problem. Gossi loves to gossip and not even bringing up the Sonics of late and we all know what Gregoire does. I’ll just write in “Mickey Mouse” because thats what they are anyway!

  15. phenom Says:

Has anyone tried reaching out to the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe to see if they still have interest in financing and constructing an arena? I imagine stern would prefer a new palace to house the Sonics and should be willing to offer a guarantee for the next available franchise….otherwise, good luck with the Ballmer plan.

  16. James B. Says:

IMO Rossi is just playing election politics. I agree with TB…one issue voting makes absolutely no sense. Plus, what about all of Rossi’s potential constituents who won’t want to be taxed in order to build an arena? Now that the team is gone he’s going to listen to them.

No election is going to bring back or save the Supes. James Donaldson is the only person running for anything who gives a damn.

  17. Seafan Says:

I voted write-in’s for Gov and Lt. Gov. Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp. I can’t give my vote to Rossi and Gregoire is just a weak governor. The state is in dire need of a political shakeup but it’s not happening this year. There’s no decent alternatives. If I were living in Chopp’s district I would be actively campaigning against that ass clown.

  18. dave Says:

So is there a write-in sonic player we can all agree on? imagine the headlines:

“thousands vote for Payton in governor race”

  19. James B. Says:

Pay attention to the task force too as you cast your vote:

    http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports/story/449518.html

    Peace.

  20. D Says:

Yes there are other issues than the Sonics when deciding who to vote for…I just spend an hour in commute that should take 15 minutes, our State surplus is now a deficeit and we are losing money hand over fist by not doing what every other state does and tax the indian gaming casinos..I VOTED FOR ROSSI for all of those reasons to those who think we are not smart enough to vote based on the totality of the circumstances.

  21. Griff Says:

    GARY PAYTON FOR GOVERNOR

I actually wasn’t going to do this… but I looked at all the people running, and they suck, and I mean ALL the people running suck. I asumed I’d be voting for an independent/3rd party guy, but even those guys were too bad to vote for, they were either 1 issue people or i disagreed with their stances.

    SO VOTE GP FOR GOV!

  22. tommy Says:

It is frustrating to see Judy Clibborn of Bellevue running unopposed for re-election to the legislature. All of them that failed to provide leadership to keep the Sonics should be voted out! Fred Jarrett, Guv Gregoire, the Chopper, Mayor McCheese, Seattle and King County Councils, all of ‘em. Bring back the Owl Party and “Throw the rascals out!”
