Just like on TV

I am not being sued by Clay Bennett.
I want to immediately clear up any misconception potentially caused by this earlier post and an inaccurate headline on realgm. I have notified realgm of this error.
I felt that the following story had some entertainment value simply due to the fact that I was served a standard Subpoena during the course of my business day. The way it happened was somewhat humerous and I know I would get support for the cause. The subpoena relates to ongoing litigation that is already reported. It does not represent any new litigation or personal actions against me. Sorry about the confusion. Getting subpoenad is not the same as getting sued. Thanks for your concern
Yes getting subpoenad really is that glamorous.
I got hit yesterday sitting in a meeting with my insurance company when a guy in a bright yellow shirt started hanging out, and eventually knocking on my conference room door. Right in the middle of the meeting I got the handoff and the “You’ve been served.” line.
At least my insurance agent is a Sonics fan. Better than being hit by some random employee complaint.
SOS has nothing to hide. We’ll cooperate fully but I have a lot of documentation to assemble over the next few weeks.
I’ll be out of town thursday through Monday. Thanks to all of you for still caring.

I’m with you Brian.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:57 am
Awsome, at least this time you get a voice! Give’em he**
August 27th, 2008 at 8:23 am
You’re the man Brian!
August 27th, 2008 at 8:38 am
We’re all behind you Brian!
August 27th, 2008 at 8:41 am
Brian,
I know how mad I get whenever that happens. I suggest that you set up your attorney as the point of contact for any and all legal paperwork and servings. This way they cant interrupt your meetings.
The NBA is treading on dangerous waters by poking at the fans like you. This will back fire on them and now you can ask for your own paperwork.
I feel for you BRob, stay strong. This will get lots of bad press for Clay and the NBA.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:56 am
you are one of the few that had direct contact with both parties, and were not part of the city.
Side Show Brad will have a hard time spinning your deposition.
August 27th, 2008 at 10:22 am
We are with you all the way Brian! I wish you can bring this up to ESPN or something and make a big deal out of it. The more cheap shot they take, the worst the look. Eventually Stern will ask Clay to stop it.
August 27th, 2008 at 10:58 am
And I would have thought with the NBA footting the bill they would have sent a guy in a suit and tie, sunglasses and with a concelled weapon:)
August 27th, 2008 at 11:00 am
We love you, Brian, for all your selfless and tireless work for the team and town we love. Let us know if you think emails or letters of support in general or on any topic would help your situation or the HoShultz case.
August 27th, 2008 at 11:15 am
you the man Brian! Screw Stern & Clay, but dammit, lets get the Sonics back!
August 27th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
Nothing against New Orleans, but I’ve got a feeling you all may have a team in Seattle sooner rather than later….Chris Paul wouldn’t look so bad in Green and Gold:

Now introducing your Kansas City Hornets! My guess is that KC is next in line for someone to play in the Sprint (Jiffy Pop) Center.
August 27th, 2008 at 12:47 pm
So what do they want from you Brian? How do they think your testimony can HELP them?
August 27th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Looks like Baltimore’s building a new arena to atttract an NBA or NHL franchise. I’m sure Sterno’s real giddy right now.

Torch the archives, fast! Especially the ones where you wrote you were convinced Bennett was making a good faith effort on the Renton proposal.
August 27th, 2008 at 2:01 pm
I notified Henry Abbott over at truehoop - this is now up on ESPN. Keep the faith everyone - Brian, you know we’re all behind you 100%
August 27th, 2008 at 2:48 pm
Good one Dick, he can then follow that up with the one where he called Bennett a liar.
Quite a few people have had this experience, including Howard Schultz, there is a court case involving Bennett convincing people that he would give a GFBE in order to get people to do what Bennett wanted, when normally they would not. That very situation has something to do with Brian Robinson posting this story, it’s true.
August 27th, 2008 at 2:54 pm
baltimore’s building a new arena because their old one was obsolete the day it was built. but all the talk is that they’ll not target an nba or nhl team (the wizards & caps would go ape), but build smaller and content themselves w/minor league hockey, arena football, indoor lacrosse, & the ncaa regionals.
but as an nba city or not, baltimore is moving ahead on getting an arena of some kind. which is exactly what seattle needs to do. once seattle’s building is promised & funding is solid, then the emerald city leaps to the top of nba lists.

It’s the OKC Thunder. Official announcement next Wednesday, Sept. 3…
August 27th, 2008 at 4:03 pm
I wonder why PBC’s attorney wants to depose you, Brian. If I remember correctly, you came away from your experiences pretty convinced they were as phony as $3 bill. You might be able to give Schultz some more ammo.
I hope your attorney preps you well. Here is one suggestion . . . only give an answer to the question asked. Never elaborate. An attorney can get you to do it. Just think how close you can get to a “yes” or “no” answer and don’t answer until you have had enough time to make sure you are okay with your answer. There is no need to rush.
That is my .02 advice for the day!
August 27th, 2008 at 5:49 pm
As long as we are dishing out advice to Brian, not that he needs it, here is one or three of mine: if you do not agree with the premise of (have you stopped beating your dog type) just say you do not agree with the premise; do not speculate; lastly, some questions do not have answers, so don’t.
Wally was pretty good all of those things, maybe it comes from being a GM and never answering a direct question.

This website is still a daily stop for me. I still believe.
August 27th, 2008 at 6:27 pm
I am a little confused. Are we talking about Brian being drawn into the Schultz case? The ESPN story said that Clay Bennett was suing Brian Robinson from SOS, period. Which is it?
August 27th, 2008 at 6:32 pm
My bad. It was the realgm wiretap that said Brian was being sued. It wasn’t the ESPN story I read.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:13 pm
i wouldnt worry about kansas city, they already have competing pro sports teams remember, his royal dick will select a city like louisville for example, because there is no competition. why hang on to sactown so long when its clear they arent getting that arena? its becoming so clear the nba is downsizing its not funny. take some solace sonics fellow sonics fans, we wont be the last fan base decimated by the end of the next 10 years.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
Sounds like RealGM needs to get their story corrected.
I think tlk is correct. KC is smaller than Seattle. They already have the NFL and the MLB. If Stern wants less competition for an NBA team, KC wouldn’t be it.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:50 pm
Stern wants to wear commie RED and goose step his way into anywhere but the USA. He hates America and should be sent “OVERSEAS”. People like Stern need to not be allowed back in the USA from visiting the Olympics.

Yo Brian i got your back man. Give ‘em HELL!!!
August 27th, 2008 at 9:24 pm
So to clarify I have been asked to turn over records I have regarding the Schutlz and season ticket holder case. I am not being sued that I know of.
I thought it an entertaining story in its initial telling, how I got served, etc. Obviously I will be dealing with it in the future via legal council.
There’s nothing to hide here but no sensational story. Probably not worth RealGM jumping onboard…
August 27th, 2008 at 10:02 pm
What kind of records?
August 27th, 2008 at 10:18 pm
We live in a very crazy litigation oriented society.
I just wonder …. Any way a group of Sonics fans or ex-sonic season ticket holders could sue Clay & Stern & the NBA?
Different from the season ticket holders claim about the deal they bought. More of a broad claim that Clay & Stern etc. screwed us.
Who knows - there is always a lawyer looking for a case and publicity and a settlement - maybe we could still be a pain for the NBA while seeking some form of justice ourselves for the way they screwed us.
OK….. Dreaming ……. Crazy ……. but it would bug Stern and make the papers a bit. show we still care.
I think SOS should sue Stern & Clay & the NBA.
Who cares if Stern says then he won’t give Seattle a team etc etc. - let’s drag him & the league into court. Show him what Nickels would not - strength and courage. Refuse to be intimidated.
Just some late Friday evening ramblings I know - part of processing the anger and greif of the summer.

That must’ve been a bummer. I’d much rather think it was Wednesday and find out it was Friday.

$300 million and a cup of coffee can buy you a nice arena in Pittsburgh. Yes I realize construction costs are more expensive in our neck of the woods, but it still looks cool.

Brian Robinson for Vice President!!!!!!!!!!!! heheh Great job bro, F them!
August 28th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
nice arena in Pitt
It does help to have an Stadium and Exhibition Authority owning/managing the situation. Western Washington will not have anything like that as long as Ron Simms is exec, he has be zero help since the action is in city land, f-that guy.
He has one more year and then I think you see Phillips take him on down.

minority owner, hey BR?
JJ- I’m totally with you. I would LOVE to sue the NBA and Clay and Stern for destroying our relationship with our favorite team, then stealing it from us. I don’t know if SOS would do this, but hey, SOS has at least two lawyers already…
Meanwhile, I think this subpoena development is somewhat humorous. It’s good to know we can still get national news for such a minor event as this. Just think what another lawsuit would do for us…
August 28th, 2008 at 8:24 pm
Actually I am writing in “Gary Payton” for Governor, and “Brian Robinson” for Seattle Mayor in November. Just to make a point.
August 28th, 2008 at 8:27 pm
Not surprised that FakeGM got the initial report wrong. Definitely not the first thing they’ve been wrong about, and I’ll bet the mortgage that it won’t be the last. Probably the least basketball site out there pulling random rumors out of their you-know-what.
August 28th, 2008 at 11:43 pm
Stern used the monopoly power of the NBA to intimidate the City of Seattle into not enforcing its legal rights.
How is that not an antitrust violation? Through threats, lies and intimidation the NBA took away the city’s ability to do what was best for its citizens.

Soniclove at 11:44 pm…
Sounds like the good beginning of a law suit to me.
Get a nasty lawyer who wants publicity and is a hoops fan and maybe tit could grind it’s way through the courts and end up in a trial & on ESPN news with stern testifying and if nothing else throwing it back in the NBA owners face to let them know we were and are furious with them and regardless of what a judge says - we could have a national platform to tell the nation what we think.
Maybe you get lucky and get a decent verdict or settlement at the end of the trial ending after we have our voice - give the money to chairty - but whatever - the process might be worth it and it might be some form of justice.
August 29th, 2008 at 2:59 pm
lawsuit’s over.
back to hating schultz.
