38 Responses to “A public memorial to celebrate the life of Ed McMichael, known Seattle-wide as Tuba Man, has been tentatively scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at Qwest Field Event Center.”
I used to live on lower Queen Anne, and always remembered seeing him out after Sonics games and when walking home at night from friends’ apartments in Belltown and Cap Hill.
I hope justice is administered to the delinquents responsible for this atrocity in a swift, severe, and certain fashion. Jeremy Bentham their a$$e$.
Such a Sad Tragic event, just a reminder of the careless people that live in our world. They took his life with likely little remorse. All over pocket change. We will miss you “Tuba Man”
Its even bad for those little punks who did this. I bet they never intended for him to die. Not only is Ed’s life gone but all those kids who did it. their life is over also.
Makes you wonder if the Sonics were still in town maybe Ed would have been at the game and not a few blocks away.
“Makes you wonder if the Sonics were still in town maybe Ed would have been at the game and not a few blocks away.”
From Robert Jamieson’s column “On Oct. 25, police say, McMichael, 53, was near a bus stop in the 500 block of Mercer Street when thugs attacked, beating and robbing him after midnight.”
There was a T-bird hockey game against the Everett Silvertips at the Key that night so I imagine he was there for that event.
500 Mercer is the corner of 5th and Mercer. Tuba Man was probably taking the Metro Bus home as he had done so many times before.
Jokelahoma Thunder getting beat by Utah pretty handily right now. Funny how this is all I check for with the NBA anymore. And funny how when I see them lose, I feel a little better. I have nothing of my own. And all I can do is wish harm on others. Look what we’ve been reduced to. SIGH.
I was watching the Clippers-Rockets game tonight, and after Kaman blew an easy layup, the play-by-play guy said, “He should be banished to Siberia for that one.” The color commentator responded with, “Yeah, or Oklahoma City.” I love how the Thunder are the joke of the league.
That story above is hilarious. Put a smile on my face that he would say banished to oklahoma city. On another note I don’t like that Calabro is gonna be calling the espn thunder game BUT since he is I hope he will express on national tv how disappointed and heartbroken we all are about losing our team.
T, I think ESPN will be giving Calabro the same gag order they gave him when he worked the Blunder pre-season game. I don’t really understand why he’s working those games. Is ESPN trying to twist the knife?
“I think ESPN will be giving Calabro the same gag order they gave him when he worked the Blunder pre-season game.”
There was an ESPN game Calabro called in the first week (Blazers vs. someone, i think). And he appeared to stick Seattle references in wherever he could. I don’t remember the actual comments, but he louded the Seattle area and it’s basketball talent several times during that broadcast. He’s a class act and probably won’t go out there blowing things up, but he brings Seattle up where possible.
I don’t know how serious to take that Ballmer rumor. The guy supposedly quotes ESPN.com, yet there is no link. I couldn’t find a mention of anything on their site or anywhere for that matter. Seems like a lot of wishful thinking.
Say the Hornets did relocate here. I have the perfect idea. Seattle gets back the Sonics name and history from OKC. Then gives the Hornets name and history back to Charlotte where it belongs. And do away with that stupid Bobcat nonsense. Everybody in Charlotte says that people there still miss the Hornets, and that the fans have yet to take to the new team the same way. This would be genius in my mind. Kill two birds with one stone.
ya, Ray Allen did well tonight. His 4th qtr performance was quite valuable to that win. Still has it…. we shall see if that strength lasts all season. That goes for the other two Boston superstars as well. But meanwhile… what a freaking show!
I think the Dino/Gregoire green & gold map was all of the above, Speedy. It is funny. It is also sick. And it is political because it keeps our Supes alive for everyone who looks.
red and blue were already taken on the national level, and it is less accurate to paint counties red or blue when there is ticket splitting. Painting whole states blue or red is not much better but it makes for good tv.
Baker/Nuggs - I think they should leave it permanently as the colors for all elections in Seattle, King County, and WA State. Just as a reminder of how effed up this whole thing became.
We should also sue Starbucks to change the white in their logo to yellow. As in, “yellow-bellied, backstabbing cockblocking motherfawking biaatches”.
I’m sure most people saw this already, but Starbucks missed its earnings projections today; in fact profits were down 97% from last year. Let the fortunes of Howard, Aubrey and Tom Ward serve as a lesson to anyone who doubts the power of karma.
Lets be real, Starbucks fall has nothing to do with the Sonics Departure and they will recover and Schultz will be Okay as will McClendon, Bennett and the rest. You can play the Karma card but these guys still have deep pockets.
My boy Rob finally getting a decent game under his belt in just 12 minutes….9pts, 7reb and a +12. I think he’ll go get a new tattoo to celebrate.
R. Swift 12:36 3-4 0-0 3-3 +12 2 7 0 1 0 0 1 2 9
I wish upon Clay Bennett that Rob Swift has a breakout season and the Plunder are forced to reward him with a $70M contract that screws their entire salary cap and benefits one of the nicest families around. Then they can take their franchise centerpiece and lose 60 games a year…
revenue up 3%, they closed 600 stores, and still made 5 million. That is not karma, that is thinning out underproducing stores without an operating loss.
Few companies have revenues going up.
There is good reason to not like his results with the Sonics, but him stepping back into the leadership role at statbucks, keeping it from becoming Boston Market, is nothing to knock.

Calabro has been assigned by ESPN to call the Thunder’s lone national TV game this season …. 11/21 @ 6:30 p.m. versus the Hornets. Fantastic.

I can’t seem to agree with myself on this one, is this funny, truly sick, or some kind of political statement? All of the above?

OKC, second game, no sellout. Way to go NBA!
