Well, well, well

Posted on Friday, April 10th, 2009 at 5:31 pm by Xteve

It’s the Seattle Weekly pretending that they actually give a f*ck about pro basketball.

From the last thread, I’m fully expecting what passes for leadership in this city and State to start the blame game. Somehow or another they’re going to piss away Clay Bennett’s $30 million and sugarcoat it like they actually had a backbone or something.

Get back to me when you develop opposable thumbs, City Hall.

In other news, Clay Aiken wins the prize for Shortest Career before putting out a greatest hits album.

I use the word career loosely. And the words greatest and hits too, come to think of it.

So we not only lost our basketball team but we did so for only 45 mil…we will not get the 30 million or a new team. I appreciate Kohls’ effort. She seems to be one of the very few who realize that like basketball or not, the key arena needs a major tenant and seattle center needs a big upgrade. Why can’t the haters look past basketball and try to see how amazing seattle center could be…and how much $ it could bring to the city. I hate this.

Holy cow, Mo Sene has a spot in the NBA again :o

So, the votes are there in the Senate, King County Senators are coming together to make a push for this bill.

Time for me to encourage as many Representitives as possible.

If this happens I will still blame Nickels for where this went.

People, the SW pays writers for their pieces.

The Nate Rob piece was amazing, but more representative about him “making it” in life and the NBA providing favorable a puff piece for the league.

But hey, at least some publication in Seattle that attracts WLEs provided a favorable look at the NBA through a locally grown talent. A dude at my work actually asked me with complete sincerety, if I had ever heard of “this little dude” and held up the cover, and told me how he thought it was “cool how he overcame his size issue and made it and everything”. The SW reaches a lot people, and I’m glad that it caught the interest of even one soccer crazy WLE.

I’m utterly sick of the waiting game.

SWeekly does care about basketball. Ask Reister or Camp Jones, they’ve done a lot to help our cause.

  8. John Says:

    Clint, what’s a WLE?

  9. Camp Jones Says:

http://tiny.cc/c9G4J This kicked started everything. It was a complementary video to a long story in the Seattle Weekly. The Seattle Weekly is and has always been a friend.

Anyone see that Rashard Lewis has a horse running in today’s Blue Grass Stakes? I’m still rootin’ for him…..

    “Clint, what’s a WLE?”

John, here are a few ideas.

“I hear the term WLE a lot on this board. I imagine that refers to White Liberal Elite. Funny thing, though, I know a lot of liberal elitists who are not white; they’re black, asian, and hispanic. I guess I don’t know any american indian liberal elitists…. wait scratch that, I do. I even knew an albino liberal elitist, but he’s dead now. Does that still count?

Elitism sucks major donkey balls. But so does blindly blaming everything on a single group of people or ideology. There are plenty of decent liberals who aren’t elitists, and plenty of white progressives who aren’t stupid enough to vote against a package of funding just because it includes money to upgrade a sports stadium as part of a remodeling for a major civic public asset (like Seattle Center). Unfortunately it appears there are a large number of knee-jerk / reactionary types in Seattle who get livid every time you mention the word “sport”. I would rather be very specific about these people and not just incorrectly brand them as “WLE”, because many of them are not white, are not liberal, and are not necessarily elitists… they’re just reactionaries of many different breeds.

    /end rant”

Claymate describes how much Clay Bennett’s real son, Graham (who’s real first name is actually “Gaylord”) Bennett and his father love minority cheerleaders from the poor side of the OKC tracks:

Obviously a fake, but funny anyway.

  15. Menace Says:

I try to support Nate Robinson because he is local. I like watching him dunk. He is an amazing athlete. But lets be honest……he epitomizes a lot of things that are bad about the NBA.

I’m glad to see he is starting to figure things out on the court. I’m just hoping his sideshow act doesn’t overshadow his talent.
