For time reasons, I couldn’t use all the audio I collected while interviewing people for this week’s podcast about the history of KeyArena. I’ll be posting extended interviews here.
Seattle Sounders FC head coach Brian Schmetzer talks about playing and coaching soccer in KeyArena for the Sea Dogs, who won the 1997 CISL championship in the league’s final season.
“Mr. Sonic” Nate McMillan, who both played and coached in KeyArena for the Sonics, relives some of the highlights from his career as well as the pain he played through during the 1996 NBA Finals and the emotion of having his No. 10 jersey retired.
Before this Friday’s NBA preseason game, the last event scheduled at KeyArena before the building is rebuilt, a special episode looks back at the history of the Key in its current incarnation with help from George Karl, Nate McMillan, Sue Bird and many other key figures.
